Rabaud- unbreakable.
What he said...
Best splitter I have ever used. Not cheap, but what is good is rarely cheap

I get offers of Baltic firewood almost every week and I know a few lads locally that have went down this road and one managed to get ripped off after dealing with the same seller for a few loads. I guess it will run its course. I expect if oil price rises and with it the transport costs and the shift in exchange rate with the €uro it probably won't be as attractive before long. Also, I'd expect after Brexit transporting firewood in and out of EU member states could carry a tariff or at least an amount of customs declarations etc. Could even be a restriction on moving untreated timber to control disease. In America they have "burn it where you buy it policy"

The Hypro 755 works from inside the cab and you can have a felling head on the crane too like the one in the video.

Id say you're bound to be close enough on the cost comparison there brushcutter. You'd need a fairly decent base tractor for that setup and I'm not sure what the max diameter you could handle with it. The Hypro 755 was mentioned earlier and here's the YouTube video for it. Not as compact as the one above but can handle the bigger stuff. I know they can be 3pt linkage carried too.

You don't quite grasp the concept of Low Impact Forestry. I don't care how experienced you are are you will Never keep up with the output of a one of these processors. I agree, there is a reason that the big purpose built stuff exists but to do proper first and second thinning in SSSI and estates ain't that reason. Everything has its place and purpose.

The price is not £50k for the Hypro 450. Last time I checked it was around £35 and that was with the crane and winch fitted. The bigger 755 machine was about £50k but it works from inside the cab and can work from both sides. Much faster than a stroke processor. 4 or 5 times the speed.

Rabaud do a winch option on the Farmer II series of log splitters. I saw them at a show a while back and it looked very handy but it did make a fair difference to the price. I suppose if you are using it all the time it would soon prove its worth.

Oakleaf Forestry Have been selling the Collino Saw benches for a good few years now and have a petrol engine road towable version too. Very well made

More bang for yer buck; Falcon is sensible price; Vimeks are daft money...
Have you actually seen the falcon in real life?
Higher, wider, (too wide!) heavier, 8 wheels but only 4 driven but only takes 4t at best.
It's a Farma trailer and crane fitted to a "tractor".
They've only actually built one of them so knows if it actually works now or will stand the test of time.
I've seen it and everything about it is wrong in my opinion.
The Malwa looks like a nice machine but I hear that it costs an awful lot more than the Vimek. As much as double some have said, but that's only hear say, I've not had an official quote for it.
Maybe someone on hear knows the right price??

In what way would you say the Falcon forwarder or malwa are better than the Vimek?

Have a look at the Collino Saw Benches from Oak Leaf Forestry.
We run a Pto driven one and find it ok for what we need.
Made in Italy I believe.
I have one of these Collino Saws from Oakleaf Forestry. The best I have seen. I looked at them all and this one is very well made and very good value. Been using it for almost 5 years now and never looked back. Conveyors are available for them too, looked at them at the time and alway planned to go back for one but never have (yet).

There's a good group on Facebook called Arbtrader UK that always has members selling Chippers among other things. I've seen a good range of machines on there over the last few weeks. Worth a look...

12 way split on dry Sitka is almost impossible for any machine. 16 way split?? I'd love to see it.
Green Ash should be ok but I find it hard to get consistently in the right size and very expensive to buy in when I can get it.
-
I love the look of the vimek, has to be way more manoeuvrable in thinnings than a tractor and trailer. The Kranman looks ok but I think I would probably end up regretting not spending the extra money on the bigger machine.
Wish list for this year would be a Vimek 606TT and a Hypro450XL

I'm not expecting anything on the scale of APF but it is good to see this type of event in Ireland to raise industry awareness and showcase this type of machinery.

Link below for the Irish Forestry Show in Stradbally Co. Laois. 9-10 May - which is a Saturday and Sunday. Seems a bit odd to have it on a weekend, I know it will suit some folks better to go on a day off rather than stopping work for a day to visit it but I would think it better to do business at a show on a week day. but that's just me, anyone else have any thoughts on this??

Why are you looking at Hakki 1 x 37? I had one and HATED IT! Belt driven machine that broke my heart with down time and is a pain in the ass to service. I changed to Palax KS35 years ago and it has no belts at all, hydraulic driven machine. I will NEVER have another hakki in the yard.
Bit dearer the day you buy it but you will see the benefit every time you use it and save on service costs and ultimately it will always be worth more if you choose to sell it on.

Looks to me like a home made buckrake for a Ferguson T20 Front end loader. Can't see it being worth very much but looks well enough made for it's age.
-
Yes it is worth buying a saw bench for speed and safety. Some are better than others but I use a Collino SCM70 and cant fault it. Far stronger than other I looked at and was roughly the same price. Very happy with the machine and the service.
Tractor PTO or Electric Saw Bench for cutting firewood logs | United Kingdom | Gumtree

was it one of these?
-
Most modern PTO saws have 700mm (or 600mm) outer diameter and 30mm inner diameter. I think the old McConnell open blade type was 1 1/4" inner
Give me a PM if you are having trouble sourcing a blade.

Collino 33T Horizontal Splitter 1200mm Long split with Hydraulic log lifter and knife adjustment and folding bench.
See video. Fortunately they make better splitters than videos!
I think you can get a 6 way knife too...

Hypro Roller Processors are available in UK from Oakleaf Forestry Firewood Processor and Forestry Machinery Ireland & UK
Demo'd at APF this year and getting great reviews.
roller processors are 4 times faster than a stroke processor.

I have had both Palax Combi and Power 70 at the same time.
The Combi does 4m3 per hour and the Power70 can do 5-6 if the timber is right. on 6-9" Ash or Larch there is nothing to beat a Power 70. The "S" model is a pleasure to use but not noticeably faster than the standard model. Its more for operator comfort. If I was to stand at the machine for 8-10 hours a day I would definitely go for the "S" machine, if it was a few hour on and off then the standard one will be a good bit cheaper.
The combi is great for the less than perfect straight timber.
The Power70 can do a 40' load of the right stuff in 10 hours with 2 men.
What make of firewood Vertical Splitter do you use?

I have the Farmer II F16 model that runs from the tractor PTO. It has never refused anything I have given it in the past. Sometimes on a particularly knotty bit you have to take a couple of goes at it but it will always get there in the end
