  1. One thing always puzzled me - my Kelly has a cork on a chain and the instructions say do not boil with cork in place (even though it has a hole in). So what's the difference to having a whistle on???

A whistle has a small hole in and when it lets steam out it, well it whistles:biggrin: whereas with a cork in the steam builds up and bang, you've got a steam powered pop gun.

I've the large one, 1.5litres, and I love it. Can't see the point of the stove kit, I tried holding a small pan of soup over the fire hole the other day - took ages to get the soup even slighlty warm.

  2. ye its ok id say, as in you push branches in 1 end and it shoots out the other lol

im certinly happy with it. i paid around £2600 inc vat for an ex demo one. i think from memory thats a good bit cheaper than the rest and it had the better engine in my opinion.

originally i was wairy of buy such a small chipper but they do let you work really efficiently.

ideally youd have a bigger engine and maybe the 18hp green mech would be better and save you having to feed in big bits slowly. (this causes a lot of vibrations to your fingers)

whatever machine you get you need to keep the blades sharp.

    Thanks very much david

  3. iv got one. its ok id say. a good bit cheaper than the jo-baeu or greenmech.

the reason i got it was more because it has a honda engine (i like hondas :001_smile:) and it was half the price of the jo-baeu.

Thanks David, yes part of the attraction is the Honda engine, When you say "ok" could you expand a little please?

  4. I have! But my opinion would be biased:sneaky2: or not believed!

In many respects they GM and the JB do not compare with the GTM, different price, specification, build quality, support and performance all spring to mind. In fact, they do not compare!

Thanks peteb, I've sent a speific e-mail to greenemchs sales address yesterday

  5. There is a dealer local to me that has the GTM Professional GTS 1300 drum chipper ( 85mm - 3" capacity) which has a 13hp Honda engine.

I've read the Greenmech CS 100 vs Jo Beau 300 and 500 debate (well not quite all 67 pages!) but before I go out and demo it has anyone actually owned or demo'd one and if so what do you think of the GTS 1300?

  6. Hessian sandbags? You can get some fairly cheap ones at not much more tahn some plastic nets- the ones I've got are very good quality tho so would either have to put on extra for the hessian bag or charge a deposit for regular customers.

  7. I've been to Fuelwood in the past and demo'd their Kindlet machine. Seems good etc but before paying out for one I'd hire one first (I've seen member Kindlets adds and posts).

Is it possible to make it pay producing kindling buying in softwood lengths by the artic load to cut up and then put thru a kindlet? Is the kindling produced marketable with some bark on?

If I could get a good regular supply of clean factory off-cuts this would make sense but is it worth cutting it down to six inch lengths and do you not produce too much waste under 6 inch? (I've seen the pics of 76AR's injury, I'd stear clear of a circular saw. Hope its healing ok.)

    How many 40 x 50 nets would you get roughly out of a builders/dumpy/tonne bag of 6inch rings/ off-cuts?

    Ta muchly
