Will soon have a rather large pile of Eucalytpus logs in my garden, ranging from about 18" diameter down to about 2" (is that size even worth keeping ?).
It's mostly still as it was felled (20 foot trunk and lots of branches) but once I get my saw fixed I'll start cutting it up - probably on on Thursday.
Free to anyone who can collect it, all I need is for someone to take the brash away as well.
If you want it let me know what lengths you want it in.

There's a lot of stuff for sale in that area on Friday-ad.co.uk recently. Might be worth a few phone calls....
Otherwise, man traps get my vote.

You don't need a PTS to work on the Railway, get your boss to apply for a TVP for you if he's got rail work, or speak to your local Network Fail depot. They'll point you in the right direction for training.

OK, the leaves aren't the problem, just an annoyance, it's the size of the thing and the branches over the neighbours garden that concern me.
Anyone want to swap some free labour for a days work in Harwich ?

I must be doing something wrong then ! I wasn't tight before I was skint.
Ahhhhhhh.................. where's the smiley with the lightbulb above it ?

http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/members-only/10634-sorting-out-little-diy-problem.html dare i say anymore? It not worth it mate, get a pro in.
When you say "they dont seem interested" do you just mean you dont want to pay the amount they have quoted. I know tree work is quiet around here and companys wouldnt be turning away work.
Didn't actually get any prices. I put the details into a Tree Surgeons website and didn't get a single response.
After reading the replies here, looking at the links and videos, and getting some very good advice by PM, I think the tree will live to fight another day.
Skint ? Tight ? Same thing isn't it ?

I'm in Harwich Essex (I'll update my profile now),. To be honest, the more I think about it, the more I'd like to do it myself. And I'm skint, so I probably couldn't afford to pay someone to do it anyway.
I never do any job without looking at the risks .
Next question is, can anything be done with the wood ? My sister has an open fire but she said she doesn't want it because it explodes when you burn it. Surely not ? What about all those poor little Koalas ?
Quick edit, I know it sounds daft, but It's not a wind up. I'll get me coat....

Hi, I'm new here and I'm not a professional, so bear with me if I sound like a complete idiot ! I might even be in the wrong place, we'll soon find out.....
After some advice about what to do with a 35 tall foot eucalyptus in my (and my neighbours) garden. It drops leaves, flowers and crap on our lawns all year round and I want to take it down completely.
I've tried getting a few quotes but no-one round my way seems interested, so I'm going to have a go at it myself.
I'm no tree-climber, but I've got plenty of experience working off ladders, so I was going to tie a ladder to the trunk and take the branches off using a bow saw. Should I cut the bottom of the branch first then the top ?
I can't let the branches over my neighbours garden drop on to his shed, so I plan to support them with rope tied to each end, which will be tied to another rope looped over a higher branch, so they won't fall when they're cut, and I can lower them to the ground.
Sound ok so far ?
Haven't really though about the main trunk yet. It's about 18" diameter at the base.
Would anyone like some eucalytpus logs ?
