This is genius if a bit terrifying.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DBydr9C-Sk]YouTube - 100+ horsepower firewood processor homemade from junkyard salvaged materials[/ame]

the risk assesment on those would be hilarious.
The new invisable PPE in the second one is quality..

OK - I hired a TW 13/75 to clear about 4 skips volume worth of woody hedging and large shrubs with some small trees thrown in. in a place of shoddy access.
Note to self...open blade housing and check at point of hire..don't take 'YES' as the answer to 'is the blade sharp'
Outcome...a blade that was the equivelent of dentures on well done steak...AAArrrrrrrrGGGGGhhhhhh
Decent size of feed hopper - but too high. In 9hrs running I lost count of number of elbow bashes on infeed rail (I'm 6')
As mentioned by another poster - out feed is better than some but too low. It also adds to overall width making it not possible to get through limited access (cue tarping ground floor corridor of house and carting through shed loads of stuff....after having considered utilising the available petrol for other than running machinary )
Good points is that Honda engine is robust (why its used in so many industrial machines) and hardly struggled with anything even with blunt blade. Makes me wonder why they did not mount 2 blades as enging would cope with this and would double chipping speed.
Access to rotor housing is easy with one single nut (just as well as we were in it about 20 times due to jamming of brash not getting chipped properly and so not ejecting)
Build quality is solid as is needed for hire kit.
Would I buy one? In a word No. Too much reducing knukles and sizes. Would think it quicker to bring stuff to location where larger maching could be used overall
Might feel different with new blade of course...

Why the irritating music? to cover up the sound of a struggling engine? the only bit of sizable wood was poker straight.

Nice use of a poly tunnel (does it not get too hot?)..and some obsesive compulsive stacking....

down the slope
all i will say is this mate if i was u i would stick to the jo beau or the greenmech if posable hire diffrent machines or get some demos booked as u will find out what the machines are like
where abouts u live mate
when i first got the machine it done about 90 hours of work before i changed the blades round but like Shreks Wee Brother said if u put crap though them they wont stay shape for long
I stay in East Lothian (20 miles SE of Edinburgh)
Little on hire of this type other than Camon C150 / TW 13/75 in area that I have found. Plenty of bigger road towed stuff but that is not whats needed for a lot of poor access stuff. I have one job where there is equivelent of 3 -4skips of tree / hedging / massive shrubs in a rear 100 ft garden with access only through the house.....yikes. So getting a machine through the property 750-800mm max width and chipping / leaving in borders is way prefferable to dragging that amount through a house!!
Others would walk away from this kind of awkward job..for me that means less competition and in Edinburgh there is a lot of situations where access if more of an issue than the job itself....that for me = ££££
Seems the few on here who use portable stuff are suggesting a mixture of JB / GM / TW....I will probably hire TW as a test on this job (even then I will need to remove wheels / axle I think) as I know I can get hired from company that looks after its hire stuff well.
The weakness of the £ is bad on the cost of imported kit though.......

If I was him, I would be suing whoever made me wear that bloody awful jumper. Actually, I think I have seen him on Southend High Street.
Just a thought...the Jumper may have been in fashion when he started that job:laugh1:
-
Top marks for succeding and living to tell the tale:001_rolleyes:
Just a though...your involved in PR for Stihl....are you going to be impressed this shows how one of your baby saws has true grit.....or scared you will get sued when someone else with less skill tries and fails

Down the Slope, I bought one in November 07 (I have the finance agreement in front of me). I Hire purchased it for 60 months (5 Years) at £70 per month with a total amount payable of £4905.69.
To avoid any confusion please know and understand the APR when you take on these lease deals and remember the Lease companies know very well how to relieve you of an extra 1k over five years.
Also I would love to know how you get 60 hours from a set of knives. Despite me being very careful with what went in the machine I used to change mine every 8-12ish or the wood never pulled in properly.
Yup hire purchase is not good unless you have no cash....given new HMRC rules where you can put whole value through in one year you would be better buying at 4/4.5 k using for 5 years and still selling for 2k if looked after (or keeping till end of life)
10/12 hours out of blades is hopeless. This is the issue I have. Most machines run on demo are fine - razor sharp blades and ticking over nicely with poker straight medium sized timber put through...that is no where near the real world though.

Best 3" chipper....

made the Kids (no pun intended) laugh

i got the m400 iv used the little timberwolf, camons, jobeau m300, 400 i think the jo beau is the best small chipper on the market but having said that the little greenmech is a very good machine to as u can see but the vid i nearly bought the greenmech over the m400.
see if jones has a ex demo machine or hire one try before u buy mate thats what i done http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXGQvd0AYUc
Good vid and advice thanks:thumbup1:....if were to rate those machines 1,2,3,4 etc what would it be
PS everyone keeps mentioning 'Jones'...a machine dealer I presume?
-
Anyone used the Camon c150? It seems other common hire machine of this size
-
Andy...wheres your vid then:sneaky2:

heres the little gloria on her virgin run, we had never used it before so we are only putting through small straight stuff, that is the secret i think, make it as straight as possible before trying to chip. i work mostly with loppers and silky now tbh. i have chipped cony cuttings, ivy, beech, oak you name it. even clematis, loads of the stuff, i chopped it up with the hedge cutter on the lawn and shoved it through with conifer, never clogged once. all you have to do is make sure it has no bits in it when turning it off, i always let it run for about 30sec after chipping, brush out the hopper, give it a bit of a wobble then turn it off. we have had to open the side casing a couple of times and reverse the belts and take out bits of chip that have been caught on the anvil. but now we are wise for it, and even then it takes 5 mins to do this. no biggy.
thanks nice vid...the Green Mech is an 18/20 hp?
-
How much are you going to use it first of all?
Then decide on value.
I got a 13/75 (2003 I think) and I would not change it for anything esp now its running in tandem with my 190. It cost me £2.5K new with a spare set of blades. Alternating the blades/servicing is all its ever had. I have not used it for a month or two but can guarantee it would still fire up on 1st pull.
No doubt the JB's may well be 'better', but is it worth the trade off in cost? That will depend on the use, etc.
Thanks thats helpful, as I would thing the extra 2k would only be worth it if you are using it day in day out. I probably would use it 40 days a year ish
-
i got offered an ex demo one of them for a very good price but wondered about it being under powered with a 13hp engine, is 75mm its max?
Most of the 3" chippers that are said to be 'commercial' standard have the honda 13hp engine TW 13/75, Camon c150 / JB 300....what I can't work out is the huge diffence in price almost 2k between them
-
Jo Beau M300 Chipper. Had one for 2 years now. Excellent machine never had a fault, change blades every 6 hours. I lease mine over a 5 year period for £98.00 A MONTH. Thats £3.00 a day! Beat that:001_tt2:
2 years and no faults it must be bullet proof or you are an angelic user:biggrin:
Good deal 6k for 5 years - does that include repairs etc?
-
Look into the Jo-Beau M300, excellent machine, well-built and available through FR Jones. I bought mine about 4 weeks ago and its brilliant:thumbup:
PS I think Stevie my have a wee Greenmech, but I've beaten him to post here:biggrin:
Hot diggidy dog Tommer9 got in there
What did you pay for it?
-
What 3" chipper shredder would anyone who has usec them recommend? Need to get something for those limited access places.
-
This machine has been on ebay at least 5 times. Sames pictures everytime but advertised in different locations (always in the middle of no were) The seller will on ship the item once funds are cleared outside of ebay. Will not allow collection always claims he works away or is away from home and there is nobody availabe to meet you to collect
Need i say anymore.....Another scam
Thats what I was thinking so thanks for the heads up!! What got me suspicious initially was the different type faces used in reply (ie looked like cut and paste from replies sent to others)
If it looks too good to be true........
Any how if it WAS real...good bit of kit?
-
Any views on this machine either positive or negative.
I am looking at this auction and it seems way too cheap if genuine?
2002 Greenmech 152 Duel Feed Woodchipper on eBay (end time 10-Oct-09 12:40:52 BST)

As I said a bit terrifying....but still genius that he managed to cobble together from what he had something that actually works.
Wonder if Scrapheap challenge could do a 'firewood processor' as an episode:001_cool:
