I think you're right, the rot is probably caused by something else. After poring through Roger Phillips I think it may be Coprinus micaceus, glistening inkcap
What sort of tree? Chesnut?
What side is the damage on. as in north south east or west?
any serious crown lifting done in say the last 5-10 years? (im thinking of possible sun damage )
is the tree "healthy" or growing well?
I love little detective work on.a sunday B-)

You could become a German Baumkontrollur. Spend your days walking around looking at trees and getting well paid for.it. you'll need to clock up a.few more winters though. 5 years experience min.
How would you like your future to look? Thats the question ;-)
well wishes....
Simon.

Hi,
Looking for work this month? (Feb)
We would like to start a batch of 60 in and around Frankfurt next monday the 23rd. It will take us at least 2 weeks to get through a mixed bag of trees for a housing association. Most of it easy stuff but there are 2 big trees to fell which will require a bit of thought and skill :-)
Can you come for a week or two?*
Please let me know by email.... [email protected] or Calling Me on 0049 160 5514313
Well wishes from Bonn

Trees cultivate life in the soil.
That is what they are about.
Understanding this is key to understanding why trees behave the way they do.
They are soil based organisms.
Too deep?

Hmmm,
I say.... Trees are feeding the Earth.
It is their function.
All that they do revolves around this.
They are deeply connected with the Earth, quite literaly.
We put them in boxes, dissconnect them, and wonder why somthing that can live for 800 years in the woods can only survive 80 in a so called urban environment.
Perhaps we are so used to that happening to us we dont notice whats really going on?
Well wishes.... :-)

Kretzschmaria deusta
in Tree health care
Posted
Hi,
I've been asked to give my advice on a Lime tree with Kretzschmaria deusta in the Crown and I'd like to know if any of you could give me any advice as to what to expect over the next few years if we leave it as is.
There is no sign of any problems around the root collar but at about 3m where the crown starts the tree has lost one of 4 limbs. Where this limb broke out there is now an open cavity with Kretzschmaria deusta activity.
Good reaction from the tree.
I am little reluctant to put the Risi through it and am not sure how much an arborsonic will help me here.
Any tips, tricks or advice would be very welcome. :-)
Simon
