I am looking for a course provider/trainer for the thorough examination of Arb kit (LOLER) course ideally in the North West somewhere but Yorkshire could also work. Had a look on TKF and Myerscough websites but can't see anything being offered.

The RHS are again advertising for an Arboriculture trainee at their flagship garden at Wisley in Surrey.

This is a one year paid placement (Sept-Aug) with accommodation. You will be working solely with the arboriculture team carrying out all aspects of tree work. There is the potential to gain further qualifications/certificates throughout the year.

Not to be confused with the traineeship that I posted about 2 months ago. This is for a full time position (37.5 hrs p/w) within the Arboriculture team at Wisley. The beginning of the advert again, is more directed towards horticulture, but as it states, this is one of the world’s best gardens and horticulture is the main emphasis.

The job however, is primarily Arboriculture, day to day duties include all aspects of tree works carried out on the mature trees situated within the garden and the wider estate, as well as carrying out tree inspections on the approximate 3000 trees within the garden (plus wider estate) that are under ownership of the RHS. There is a small amount of hedge trimming, log splitting and other minimal duties that we are asked to carry out from time to time with the basic running of a garden of this size. We have excellent tree climbing, rigging and other equipment and you have the potential to gain more qualifications and further your knowledge.

The advert online is orientated towards horticulture as the RHS run other courses and it also mentions estate management, there is actually very little of this. A very small amount of hedgetrimming and log splitting, the rest is all tree work. We have excellent tree climbing and other equipment and you have the potential to gain more qualifications and further your knowledge.

Pre-requisite qualifications are CS 30, 31 & 38 (39 desirable)

UK Driving licence is essential

An Arboriculture and/or Horticulture Level 2

Some industry work experience would be desirable.

Accomodation is also provided for the year.

A little late with this i have been catching up but back to page 13 or 14 i think it was about aerial rescue. We were practicing aerial rescue on tue at work with two persons weight on a zig-zag and all seemed fine, no noticeable change in the way it ran or amount of pressure applied to descend.

right i climbed the gloucseter tree near Pemberton last year while walking the bib track and camped underneath some big karri's but unfortunalty didnt have any climbing kit would have loved to climb one properly, cheers for getting back to us, again nice video

Nice Video and is a white gum a Karri? and was this tree south of Pemberton somewhere?

Met this feller at the australian nationals up in darwin which i i think he won and was using this system in the masters climb, anyway does anybody know of a uk stockist for the kong futura ascender? had a quick look through google and also on caving sites but nothing comes up only other option is to ring someone who sells something made by kong and see if they can get hold of one. just thought i would ask first.

yeah worked for them 3 years ago roughly good company alot of policies and procedures but i think thats the way they have to be all in all good though. not sure if it makes a difference but wasnt in this country.

I used to work with a logger in canada and he had a funny technique for putting a thrown chain back on without unbolting the side casing. he used to just put the chain on the top side of the bar put the rear handle on the floor with the bar pointing into the air and then flex the bar and roll the chain over the nose a little bit at a time then start the saw, blip the throttle and the chain would be back on, just thought i would share.

note: only really works on longer bars but all he used to use was 66 or bigger. A tough glove helps aswell haha.

Anyone heard of a Oregon POWERSHARP!!! saw it in a gardening magazine looks like you bolt it to the end of the bar, run the saw and hey presto its sharp. Anybody got one? used one? any good? etc.

Think i may know the answer to if its any good but see what people say.

had one pair of protector pros for 3years although i only wore them couple of days a week for two of them years. after they were done got a new pair (6months ago) sent them back after 2months they sent me new pair and they have done same, so got pair of meindl airstreams

Nice video james, looks like you have to excellent groundies there, beautiful rigging, landing the big chunks of wood.

I had same problem with mine but think mine was just left and not right or other way round not sure, cant remember anyway sent them back to mr jones and they swapped them for new pair and unfortunalty both feet show the same signs but not as bad so just keeping an eye on it.

My paps was lucky enough to go half way up a chimney with him, he came to do work on chimney of the mill my dad worked at and asked if anyone wanted to come up with him. got half way up n said that will do haha, said he was a proper chap
