  1. people can throwline over a branch with a massive cavity on the top of the branch not visible from below :001_tt2:

I bet more people fall of ladders and you should load your anchor point before you start trusting your judgement

  2. best tip i got told at college, concentrate just above where your aiming for seems to work. also a decent throw line and a 12oz bag make all the difference, i find the 16oz bags to heavy and the 10oz bags to light, also get a cube they make a hell of a difference. also alot of practice.

but it will never replace a good old big ladder

Yes but people can fall off ladders:001_tt2:

  4. Hi all,

The 2008 'DPC' (Draft for Public Comment) bears little resemblance to the actual 2010 doc so I wouldn't suggest it to be a suitable (FOC) alternative.

2ndly, I was with Jo last week in York and she said she was no longer supplying the standard. The 50% discount was an offer for January only whihc was then extended to delegates attending the first round of seminars we delivered.

Hence £172, as full price, for the document is the only option. Assuming the doucment will be valid for a min. period of 5 years that equate to about £35 per year...a little more palatable!

I see there maybe a 'cute' marketing opportunity by having your copy in your site visit folder so when trying to convince 'Mrs Miggins' why that (very) light crown reduction is an appropriate option, or why you shouldn't be removing multiple primary branches form the lower stem section in one hit, and you can refer to it introducing it as the industry standard to whihc all 'tree care professionals' should work....impressive eh?!...just a thought to try and encourage purchase.

    Cheers all..

    Paul

Do you think that they would let me spread the cost and pay them £35 per year for the next 5 then or maybe £3 per month over the next 60 months

  5. having recently converted to such modern things as hitch climbers and 2-1 advantage prussic up i pity those that dare not try new things.

old school is no longer so cool!

I was lucky enough to work with two oldtimers within the first two years of geting into this industry and they could both get around a tree quicker and with less efort than me even though they were considerably older and I was much fitter admittedly I would like to see how things have changeed nowdays

  6. I am advertising an Ifor Williams GD105 Trailer in the classifieds Its only ever been used to transport automatic clay traps arround a shootting ground so is in mint condition and all paperwork is available if interested PM me.

It is also being advertised elsewhere so may go quick.

  7. There is absolutely no way you could know the profit margins of another company. You can pressume things to make it easier on yourself for loosing out but that's just a coping mechanism .

I have undercut many a job just to do it for the thrill, the wood, the fun or just to annoy other contractors, maybe just the mood I am in.lol

I have also done jobs 5 x quicker than what someone else would take to do it. If you have good kit then you can do this.

I am not in business to be all buddy buddy with my oposition, I have bills to pay and a family to look after.:)

I could not have put it better myself everyone has different costs and overheads and this is what dictates most prices.
