Back at college, a few of us went down to the New Forest to do some stealth recon. climbs on the redwoods along tall tree avenue. Not sure of the height but it made the mature oaks around it look tiny. At the top of the highest one not only did we find the most amazing view, but an old video box with paper and a pencil in it to leave a message and name!! This was 2001, wonder if it's still there?!
me mate fell outta that 1 i think said somethin bout a box at the top. broke his back. still climbin though. and well.

what about a proper swivel like a petzl one
Done exactly that, looks the nuts, but takes a bit of gettin used to.
-
£20K I might have a dabble, but looks like I'll have to wait for a second hand one to come up
But it ticks all the boxes and more. Just needs a pto

Basic chassis cab starts at £35k it says
ill get 2. ha ha ha ha

Does it have low box ?
hav a look on utube you tube what ever it is. iverco 4x4 test or somethin???
-
Now there in lies the dilema
Find me a truck that:
Carries a good payload
has low box for reversing chipper up a steep drive and ragging stumps out
has 4 wheel drive
is narrow enough to get down domestic drives
is manouverable enough to get through woodland
as decent road speed
low enough to hand ball logs on
Have you seen the iverco 4x4 van. ooo got a semi.

To be perfectly honest it's about as bad as I have ever seen a tree. Gum trees are not the easiest to keep in shape without hacking, a bit like the birch. The choice is some gentle tip crotching or reduce the crap out of it and go back next year to take some of the shoots out and the following year again :-) Job for life mate
Thats the sort of tree we spot and laugh at but I expect somewhere in our beginnings everyone has one of those. Not me though... not that's photographed anyway
ha easy! well bit leggi bit snappy you no how it is!

Has anyone had a tighter fell than this, 6 inches below the patio was the spec. Despite paving over the roots this maple was in good shape.
that looks like quite a new 200t u had probs with it not startin in the wet or v cold weather?
-
use a 2m new england wire core wiv ics rope grab for everything. sweet.

If this guy you subby for can`t start them or mend them himself and indeed claims they rattle, you should probably begin to wonder is his knowledge about saws as good as his skills for fixing/servicing them!
Never had a prob with a stihl apart from the cast breakin on an old 088, and splittin a bar with a fellin wedge. oops. otherwise they start everytime. it just in my experence every husky ive used just doesn't feel as tight or as solid as a sthil and is no were near as reliable. what climbin saw do u use? bet its not a husky. dropped my 020 from 30feet. not a skratch. a husky would explode in to a million pieces. soz 2 rant just fed up with unreliabe tat.

If you have the money buy the sthil 341 you won t be disappointed. If you want to save money get the makita dcs 5000 bloody good saw will save about 150-200 quid if you shop around. I ve used most saws and have had the pleasure in repairing them when my students break them. But the two mentioned above are excellent and will not let you down.
Don t know whats up with some of the huskys at the mo don t seem as good as the older ones. used to be a husky fan 4 years ago. Maybe i am just unlucky.
Easier to get parts for the sthil and makita but huskys like to swap and change their design. Pain in the arse.
Hello mate have't got any money at the min but i will be getting a 341. Might get a makita as a back up saw much later on when i no a bit more about them. Lets hope work picks up (or the wind). My 020 does the most work anyhow. The best saw ever.

Thats where footlocking or SRT comes into its own, as the rope doesnt move on the anchor during the inital ascent, so there is no issue with friction.
Once your in a simple 2 ring friction saver will reduce friction on your anchor point, I wouldnt rush out and buy a Ropeguide.
Do you not find a bit of friction is good? Keeps the rope still while you push the prussik up. Unless im roped round a thick branch lower down i never use one (which is never). Footlocking is hard. Don't use that either. lol.

Does the engine on your chipper not get hot?
The ash left from the fire is also full of nutrients.
A chipper doesnt get as hot as a fire. I dont object 2 fires, in fact i quite like them, but they cause damage and leave a mess. No arborist would use a f$%kin digger 2 prune a tree, even a willow. which just proves they don't no what they're talking about. Plus the damage left by the digger/fire takes a good year to grow back.

I think it depends what you're looking for in life. If you think you'll get rich and retire young, no chance, but if you can measure your wealth in quality of life, mixed with an element of fun, then your quals can take you there. This is a hard life, hard on the body, hard at times on the soul, but its a good one.
Thats beautiful sniff sniff. Rip my heart out. Tell it like it is. lol.

ive got a first diploma in forest mec and a nd in forestry arb. i tell u now the courses hav only given me a tiny insight into the industry and you'll need 2 years experence at least to emigrate. But after 4-5 years out of college i finally feel like im gettin somewhere. college was great fun. the lads the laughs. the birds. the sex. would recomend it to anyone.
