The key word there is 'justified'...
Access difficulties, ground conditions, locality of live electrical equipment, weather conditions, road traffic for example are all things for a climber to consider when planning mewp use.
If there are reasons why a mewp should not be used, then climbing is 'justified'.
Hope that helps - anyway, back to work!

WORKING AT HEIGHT REGULATIONS 2005
These Regulations say that climbing work with a personal fall protection system (rope and harness) - can only be undertaken if:
1 - A risk assessment has demonstrated that the work can be performed safely while using that system.
2 - The use of other, safer work equipment (e.g. mobile elevating work platform) is not justified.
3 - The user and a sufficient number of available persons have received adequate training specific to the operation envisaged, including rescue techniques.

The DNO might help, it does happen, but they might insist they do the work themselves with one of their approved contractors:
Electricity Act 1989
Schedule 4, Paragraph 9 – ‘Felling and lopping of trees etc.’
Generally, the owner of the land where the lines are situated is responsible for
managing trees and can reclaim costs from the NOs. However, cutting trees in close
proximity to live electricity overhead lines can be very dangerous if persons are not
trained in this work. Consequently it is common for most NOs to offer to undertake the
necessary work on the landowners behalf.
(From the Energy Networks Association Engineering Technical Report 136)
In some cases they will put in the shutdown and line drop for a 3rd party, especially if the customer insists.
Good luck!

UA1, DNO specific induction, 30/31, chipper, their authorisation, first aid - to work on the ground
same plus 2.1/2.2 to work on the ground with rods (38 if in a 2 man team)
same plus 2.3, 38, 39, 40 to climb adj to live electrical equipment, for some DNO's a field check too.

Has anyone posted short notice requests on here and had any success?
We occasionally find ourselves let down by the odd client and because we specialise in Utility Arb cannot just drop the guys on something else that day.
We can actually find ourselves finding out 4pm regarding work being cancelled for the following day.
Instead of getting the guys 'logging up' round the back, I wondered if anyone else thought it might be useful to use this forum to advertise something like '2 guys, 30,31,38,39, 4x4 trk chipper available for the next 2 days' on this site.
Any thoughts?
Anyone done this before?
Is there/should there be a thread here just geared towards passing round our resources in order to help each other out every now and again?
