Is anyone in the south/south east involved with any volunteer community/conservation projects?
I was involved with a little community project a few years ago that has come to an end and I quite fancy getting back into doing some volunteering for a good cause!
I have nothing to do with tree work usually (I found the site due to some machinery searches!) but I am an agricultural fencer by trade so do have some skills

The Green unimog 'PDZ' has just been listed on eBay! It's in Derbyshire it seems

The new Isuzu having 3500kg towing weight is all well and good but most of the current pickups have 2wd/4h/4l on a switch on the dash. 4H can usually be selected on the move but to select 4L usually requires a stop.... This isn't practical in every day towing. I think I'm right in saying you can select low range in a land rover whilst moving at up to 5mph??
Imagine you are pulling out of a steep tarmac driveway onto the road with a sharp turn at the top, 3.5t in 2wd isn't much use, 4h gives traction but lots of clutch slip and the 4wd system on most jap pickups makes turning the corner a total PITA and you can feel the whole truck scrubbing as you turn! 4L is geared low enough but you have to be prepared to scrabble your tyres as you turn and then hold everyone up whilst you stop and select neutral then select 2wd before pulling away again!!
I have a jap pick up..... I find myself gazing longingly at Land Rovers!!

New Years resolution this year is to find somewhere proper to live.... Somewhere dry and comfortable! A comfy house and a good nights sleep should help with work productivity too... A win win situation! :-D
Also to start networking more and to make more contacts

Very nice Ben H!
How do the u900 round cabs drive in comparison to the square cabs? Is it like comparing series land rovers to defenders?!

Jump-it, I am near Arundel
Thanks for the suggestions, I ll start making some calls!

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a courier/delivery service that would collect a set of tractor tyres and rims from Nottingham to west sussex.... all my searches have drawn a blank so far and the seller will be wanted them shifted soon.
Thanks in advance

Are you talking about a little parmiter post knocker or a more up-to-date contractors model? I work alone with my tractor/knocker and havent had a problem yet. My knocker has a rock spike to deal with hard ground etc. I ve not come accross a situation yet where I have needed an auger
The advantage (to me!) of a tractor and post thumper over a mini digger/thumper is that the feet make a contact point with the ground, the mini digger arm moves and takes such control when just tweaking posts upright etc that you can often end up with a wobbly post in a huge hole!!
Is there is a 'right' way to do fencing though?!!

I cant find the spec list but I was told it boosts to about 140-ish hp........... plenty for what I need!

Never underestimate the value of the cross, Christ annihilated sin at the cross, on this thread I see unbelief, scepticism, and a lack of faith. Even these can be overcome since Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. I love Jesus!!!!!! Why? Cause he first loved me. Why? Cause He chose to. Why? I don't know. Why? Cause I'm not God. Why? Cause only God is God. Why? Cause He is. Why? I don't know. Why? Cause I'm not God
I ll add a 'yes' to the list! I am not a regular on Arbtalk.... Not a regular church goer either actually! BUT there is something about it all that just makes sense (too me!! )

Is anyone on here supplying cleft chestnut rails? We have been asked to do a short run of fencing around a stable block and so are looking for a supplier.
The client is after the rustic look but they need to be "straight and uniform" rustic
Need about 30 rails (usually 2.9m??)
If you can help can you please pm me price/availability etc
Thanks

Ah.... perhaps I disturbed the solenoid in the process (would be handy as that would be a cheaper problem to fix next time!)
Thankyou

The motor was seized! I gave it a quick tap with a hammer and she works a treat
I suppose it seized due to lack of use, it'll be a PITA if i have to lay underneath it each time i want it to tip though.
Thanks for all the suggestions

what area of west sussex are you mate??
Chichester/Arundel area, I am not directly involved with the ARB industry, just have an interest and am learning through reading this forum!
Thanks for the suggestions. There is occasionally a click from the solenoid when i try it, I ll have another check of the connections and buy a new solenoid to try that too.

Yes, sorry i should have said, the light does come back on when i release the switch. All connectors look good but perhaps i ll re-do each one just to be sure

Hi,
my transit tipper has stopped tipping, not too much of a problem apart from the fact I cant get my tools out of the under body tool locker
There is an on/off isolator switch that has a small light on it, this works. When I press the tipper rocker switch, the light on the 'on/off' switch goes out and no tip!
I have just replaced both switches (just in case) but still no joy
All connections are good at the battery end too.... but i cant check the wiring under the tipper (for obvious reasons )
Does it sound like an earth fault? anyone have ANY suggestions?!
Thanks

i run a mog for fencing and its a damned good set up. kinghitter post knocker mounted on high lift front linkage, posts on rear body and wire unwinder on rear linkage whilst still towing my 16ft ifor with additional materials in.
3 seats in the cab and enough storage space for digging tools, buckets of staples etc so no need for a second vehicle on site which cuts down costs alot.
get the right tyres on it and it will go anywhere u need to go fencing and if it does get stuck its too wet to put the fence up and your strainers will pull or twist out when u tension the wire up!!
Garth, any pictures of your set up?
tracked post knockers vs tractor.

I've just recently changed to a tracked post driver. I started out with a lease hired New Holland and post driver, then bought an older tractor but found the hydraulics too slow compared to the more modern tractor so decided to replace them both with a tracked machine.
The advantages are as you say, no in and out the tractor all day long, it's a more compact machine so can get through the trees and into tight corners etc
It's easily moved from site to site BUT they are heavy, mine is 2.8 ton so I often end up moving it behind the tractor anyway :-/
I'd say it's good on steep slopes if going up and down.... I'm not looking forward to using it on a steep side slope though, I've had it quite tippy on a relative gentle side slope already and there is no option for dual wheels like I used to have on the tractor on some sites!
