  1. Out of interest, which area of Kent was this? Seems to be getting more and more common near me (Ashford).
  2. I was going to try an extra wrap but thought it would provide extra friction. Will go and try it again tomorrow and see how much difference it makes before I order some different prusiks. Thanks for the replies Rob
  3. Yea I had a feeling that was going to be the case. Might order some yale silver streak and see how that gets on. Was going to try a hitchclimber with vt but dont think a week before my course starts is a good time to change systems. Cheers Rob
  4. Afternoon, Ive got my cs38 coming up next week and have had to order pretty much all new gear (typical it all met its 5 year mark back in september), included in my new set up was Yale fire 13mm rope. Ive taken the new gear out half a dozen times now just to get used to it and get some practise in and am having a massive problem with the friction hitch sticking. Particularly once Ive started descending. This morning I descended about 4 meters (very slowly) and it totally locked up to the point I had to use the other end of the rope to get the weight off to free it up. This has happened with and without a cambium saver. The last rope I had was a cheap yale and I never had any issues with this, even when it was new. Im using a standard 4 wrap prusik loop. The prusik is marlow 9mm. Anyone offer any advice on what to try next. I was going to try a different hitch but would really like to stick with what I know. Cheers Rob
  5. Its the first I've heard of it to be honest, it was only when i saw "Equipment should be marked for unique identification" in the assessment schedule that I thought i'd ask. Im sure theres a few ways of complying
  6. Many thanks for the replies. Brilliant, thankyou very much Treequip. Will send pm. Thanks again, Rob
  7. Okay will see if I can source some. Going to be a bit tight now seen as everyones shut down over christmas and new year but hopefully be able to find some somewhere. Cheers Rob
  8. Good evening all, Ive got my cs38/39 on the 4 th of January so just trying to get some revision in. Been going through the assessment schedules and noticed that it mentions all equipment having a unique identification mark (cant remember exactly how they worded it). The problem is I just buy the friction rope and make my own prusik loops so they dont have any identification marks on them. I still have the receipts for when I brought the rope ( about a week ago). Is this a problem and if it is how do I get over it? Cheers, Rob
  9. Evening all, Not sure if this is the right place but just a quick question regarding tying the double fishermans knot. Ive just booked my climbing courses for January and so have ordered some new gear including Prusik cord. Ive always tie these with relatively short "tales", ie excess rope after the knot. Ive usually left these about an Inch long and never really bothered with shrink wrapping etc as they've never got in the way before. Now Ive read somewhere that these must be left with 3 inch tails ( I think it was the tree climbers companion but cant be sure). This seems a bit long so my question is what length does it need to be and also how do you tidy them up ie shrink wrap? Many thanks, Rob
