Its not crap, it might be crap in your opinion I've researched quite a bit on two stroke oils and their ratings, maybe you should too instead of your insulting comment. I'm not looking for arguments at all just honest opinions from which I've been hearing honest answers so far.. until u showed up. If you've nothing positive to say don't bother..
This is just another totally pointless oil thread exactly like the hundreds of other oil threads , which had you read, might have stopped you posting yet another one. I don't care what saw you use it's all been covered before.

I'm a stihl fan boy and I'm not gone on the ultra at all. I want to go back to hp super, its semi synthetic and fd rated plus it looks a lot better for the saw than the "pond water" ultra that's fb rated and full of carbon coated pistons and cylinders.. just my 2p on it. I'm only learning myself I'm not a pro logger or nothing just want the best for the 500i she's a beauty and I only want the best for it. Many thanks for your informative post. Much appreciated 🙏
Where exactly are you getting this crap from?

Would this fit my ms250 with the correct sprocket?
Unfortunately, the ms250 and ms261 have different bar mounts so the bar wouldn't fit.

Just checked the date on the Stihl Ultra bottle two thirds used in the garage it appears to be 2012 and still seems to be doing its job ok. Never gave a thought to an expiry date.

I'm guessing half the oil lying in the stores of dealers is more than 5 years old before it's sold.

Probably a 24".

Looks like something primary school kids would have thought up.
I was hoping for a saw mounted length adjustable laser line.

Just buy Aspen 4 stroke and mix it how you like.

"as for milking with it, I expect you’ll be on a hiding to nothing "
Totally agree with the above statement.
Milking with a chainsaw is NOT recommended.

Thankyou yeah its the same saw.
Did you need a shim/washer?
Bars seem to be wearing internally like pic below and maybe rim sprockets will help reduce the speed of bar wear....
Don't recall any extra washers etc. It was a straight swap of clutch drum with original.
As the rim sprocket "floats", as does the chain on a spur sprocket, and automatically lines up with the bar, wear on the bar rails is not down to the sprocket not "lining up" with the bar more probably the wrong gauge of bar/chain combo or uneven sharpening.

Don't know if this saw is basically the same (it was .325 narrow kerf) but I converted to rim with the help of Shavey.

I'm basically in the same position but have learned enough not to waste money on inferior tools.

I'm guessing the best thing that could happen to this saw is to chuck it in the bin and buy an decent saw.(Just saying).

And so do we use the chainsaw to cut up the sheep or open the packaging?

yeh i've seen that, they do this kit and was just interested to give it a go and meant to be pretty fast in soft wood!
Stihl Tuning Kit for MS 261 C-M – FR Jones and Son Ltd | Warehouse Operating As Normal
WWW.FRJONESANDSON.CO.UK
Conversion kit for a faster cutting attachment (40 cm) for MS 261. Ideal for harvesting pinewood. Contains: 1 x 16 inch guide bar, 3 x 3/8 63 PS saw chains and 1 x rim sprocket...I've been looking at that myself but that setup seems to have been superseded by the new Light 04 bar and full and semi chisel .325 narrow kerf chain which have performed very well in tests. Unfortunately the 3/8th chain is not compatible with the new bars but I believe the new chain is much more robust.
Also the 3/8 bars are not listed on their own only as a kit and the kit does not appear in the new catalogue so I think stihl might have quietly dropped it.

It's just if you do a search for Dolmar it defaults to the Makita site.
I know the Dolmar brand has disappeared in the US.

Sorry to slightly hijack this thread but has Dolmar now disappeared as a chainsaw brand totally replaced by Makita ?
(was going to suggest the Dolmar equivalent to above).

Still under warranty, take it back and get them to see what the saw is up to. The software should tell the tech what the fuel is doing and that may help diagnosing the issues.
Sorry, I forgot, just run it on Motormix, it sorts out all poor running machines apparently
Are you sure your not going through the male menopause?
Been quite tetchy in recent posts.

Bought a couple of these kits from HIS Inverness . They were selling them for £49 + vat, a real bargain.
It certainly cheered up my MS260.
