  1. thanks Scotspine, I'll be clearing the limb on Fri when I'll be able to look at it in more detail, it was alive but I'll check the proportion of deadwood. I'll be checking the wound on the tree aswell.

  3. Hi people, my first post tho' I've been visiting on and off for a long time - great discussions and info, it's about time I engaged properly! Had a limb fail on an old oak I inspected last summer, there was around 20" of snow and no wind to blow the snow off, not been able to inspect the torn branch yet, but the wound looks fine from a distance with just some central staining. Any ideas?! I've zoomed in for the images so quality is not great:
