  1. couple of my old mog tyres would work a treat

lets just say ive just got back in after using 4 tyres and a shed load of diesel.

the elms wood is covered in ivy and the bonfire is thesize of a massive local display bonfire maybe even bigger. so no ammount of straw and firelighters will do unless i had a artic load.

GOT TO GET THE HEAT THERE GUYS

  2. Hi Guys

just bending you ears for a second. ive been doing a massive dead elm clearance we have had a jcb etc on the job, weve got the biggest bonfire you have ever seen waiting to be lit.

just wanted your opinion as to best way of getting it going.

im a good fire starter under normal circumstances but this is BIG

    cheers

  3. on my second 441 fresh today its so clean my wife would let me take it to bed haha

seriously though my 2nd 441 and they are a fantastic saw plenty of grunt lite enough for all day use and fuel efficiency is great had my dealer stick a 20in bar on her.

normaly use a 18in bar which in my opinion is perfect.

i have been known to run a 660 with a 18in bar oh my god feels like the saw wants to rip your arms of

  4. Not any chat about these on here for a year.

My collegue and I are looking to get a pair of these for our Stein helmets, does anyone know if they have been improved since last year. Esp. does the cable to the other ear go over or under the helmet or is this a mod you need to do yourselves ?

Had a demo at the FR Jones show the other month as was well impressed. One of the trainees on the CS38 training course at Kingswood this week reckons they only work in line of sight. Has anyone experience of them working from back of a property to front with chipper in full flow ? As there are only two of us it would be handy not to have to wait 25 minutes for the assigned groundee for the day to return to retrieve a dropped silky for instance.

    Cheers

    Peter

i had a set for ayear or so

absolitely brilliant changed a lonley job back into a fun job , i realy miss them

just got a bit pissed off with taking them to be repaired for the 5th time eventualy asked the makers (talking heads) to swap over to 2ways and ptt

who were fine about the swap

the best thing you can do is get yourself some spare bash hats and defenders for when you dont need them

i used to love taking the piss when the groundy was talking to the customers.

we had some fun with are arbcomms worth every penny

ps if you want to set up a 3rd headset it cost big bucks ££££££

  5. I dont have a problem doing a bit of topping at a customers request.

I reckon the tree would rather be topped than felled and I fell plenty of healthy trees.:thumbup1:

At least I can feel better in the knowledge that I can do a better job than some. ie, at least I wont wear spikes.:laugh1::lol:

    Dito !!!

a jobs a job and money makes the world go around.

also kill plenty of good healthy trees at customers request.

you will never change the customers mind as to what they want from you

  6. not always !! i think alot of what we do trying to prevent dutch elm doesnt make much sense somtimes we bleach the saw bars after cutting off infected branches yet 3 miles up the rd in the next area the councils dont give a crap and the streets are lined with dead elms ? unless everybody is taking the same measures evrywhere surley its inevitable that the elms will all go !

i think half the problem stems from when my dad was a tree surgeon.

he tells me that they were surposed to burn on site but never did.

ive got a load of dead elms coming up and the customer wants to try and flog the timber ???

i wonder what trouble you would get in if i parked up my truck with a load of infected timber in the middle of brighton and infected all the street trees?

  7. Chin up , ride the storm

now i am not a religious freak but when my **** hits my fan i do find myself asking the big guy.

and 9 out of 10 times the phone rings and if it dont then it means i have to do a bit more

ie that big box of leaflets sitting in the corner of the dining room.

inother words you may pray that your win the lottery hey we all do now hes not gona give you that one but he will give you as much a chance as every one else, you just got to buy the ticket.

look for help in the unusual places thats where you will find the answers.

    freak over and out

  8. Ha! Aint that the truth!!

Try sleeping at night when you are owed 92k!

i do some work for this company who take 60 days and thats if your lucky

all this gets taken into account when pricing up for them (i make them bas*ards pay double it should be)

  9. Thanks all, even you Tom!!

They are insulated but still going to speak with the power firm in the morning and see what they say. Customer has other work for me to do there and there's no rush on the job.

Thanks for all the constructive comments!

verry wise have worked close to them in the past but not close enough that i could die.

question who would yo rather be when a elec cable snaps climber or groundy i think groundy would be worse unless he was sitting in the van

  10. surely there must be a healthy balance to be found between commercial and domestic to keep cash flow coming in. (with log sales aswell)

    yeah 1x1

    but hey work is work.

it just get you down when you have spent hundreds doing a job and it takes the accounts dept 30 days + to pay you.

  11. Lets say a company becomes established as a reputable outfit after a few years of mostly domestic work and wants to try and make some good commercial contacts. How did some of you who achieved this go about it and what barriers did you have to overcome along the way?:confused1:

be carefull to much commercial work gives you grey hair.

most of my work of late has been commercial, my bank balance is empty and im owed £8500.

cash flow is crap with commercial

  12. cheers andy

wanted to now if they are long lived .

nothing pisses me off more than paying 150 £200 on boots and for them to fall apart within 6 months.

i loved the aqua fells but the soles were made of cling film.

on my second pair of jollys they last a long time but weigh a tonne

    those steins look lovely

  13. hi all

Just had a tipper(crew cab ) delivered but found even when fully up it will not tip out chippings, Ally sides and base. never had this problem with old truck ie metal bottom and sides. any idea why it wont tip properly??. help needed

i sort of have the same prob

best thging to do is whilst reversing slam the brakes on.. job done

  14. defiantly

    just a quick question,

can you get the new type of fuel and oil and fuel caps for that 660 because we have a 2007 model at work and has the same fittings?

no idea never thought of changing them ?
