  1. Thanks Andrew - the Kwik Chip Chiper has got to go - it has had full service already..... done belts, knives and anvil (rollers and hydraulics good) just not sure its the chipper for me clogs to easily - worked with far better and so knowing what's available keen to upgrade.

Will upload photos of the job when I get into it - prob next yr.

Thanks Dumper - yes had to modify the Kwik Chip to make it fit - whatever I end up with it will certainly be modded to suit the tractor and as you say the plan is to Mad Max Forestry Guard it :)

Seen a few videos of same model tractor running the seppi midi on you t*be

not expecting it to be the fastest or the most productive just keen to know what other owners think of their alpine forest mulchers.....any preferences or advice appreciated

    Many thanks

  2. Hello all...……..

I have recently purchased a 2003 Antonio Carraro Trx 9400 (87hp) alpine tractor and would appreciate some advice from fellow alpine users with regards to your experience with forestry mulchers and large diameter woodchippers attachments.

I have some ride creation to attend to in a young sitka plantation (6-8" diameter trees at base and lots of gorse) . I intend to feed a pto chipper attached to the tractor via a small mini digger with cutting head to create the rides/tracks and then follow up - tidy up with the forestry mulcher...………..

I currently have an ancient kwik chip 8" pto chipper for the tractor - its excellent but has no reverse and having been spoilt with Schliesing and Jensen road towed chippers over the yrs - this thing gets jammed on leafy vegatation far more than I would like...………...I will be looking to upgrade this ...budget is not massive so looking for good/secondhand on the chipper.

Looking at a 11" farmi ch 260 - anyone had any experience with one on these - looks good on you-tube? how do they fair with green leafy vegetation? or what other pto chippers would be up to the task...………..

Also Looking at Seppi Midi forst Fixed Knive Mulcher (2.0m wide - same width as tractor to avoid puntures) Any good? And does anyone have one for sale? How long do they last before you need to replace knives etc (I appreciate that depends on how many bad things you hit - but on average etc - would a new set of knives last 5 days or a month)

Also interested in any other suitable similar width mulchers out there that are compatable with these tractors and your experience with them. Any other suggestions other that seppi for this sized tractor.

Thank you in advance for any help

  3. Hi All. Does anybody know of a contractor who owns a heavy duty forestry tiller and mulcher. My job is near Arundel west sussex - I need to prepare some stumpy woodland ground for turfing.

The machine must have the ability to work underground and condition the topsoil - something along the lines of seppi multiforst soil tiller or the fae forestry tiller and soil stabiliser.

    Many thanks for your help.

  4. Hi Ian,

Could you let me know what sort of issues you have had with this machine. I would like to see if i can help. I know the Predator machinery very well.

The Predator 28R machines are normally very good. All the teething problems have been sorted.

    Get in touch soon.

    Hi Mark

I am pleased your not experiencing difficulty with predator machinery, my limited interaction with the brand has not been so good.

My machine has not been reliable at all.........

My machine is approx 20 months old now and has done just over 100 hrs from new...... to save me writing an essay I will put aside all the times it broke down while under warranty in its first year

Since the warranty expired my machine has worked on 7 occassions ( approx 15 hours) and broken down on 5 of those occassions (all unrelated)

This has caused me hours of downtime, left me with jobs half finished and Customer Goodwill (which I strive to maintain) is hard to keep when your stumpgrinder releases hydraulic oil all over the clients lawn.

On the last occassion it broke (vibration within the boom severed a wire that disabled the cutting wheel) the machine developed a further 2 unrelated problems while back in the care of the service agent!!

the first while it was being tracked off the trailer..... rear housing became loose and started to shudder excessively!! - Redwood had to completely modify my stumpgrinder to rectify this by securing the rear section with bolts down into the frame ?!?

and the second fault occurred on collection day - the machine would not start..... so an alternator and a battery later and I was away......

Maybe im just unlucky and are a stand alone case or maybe my machine is possessed !!

    Ian

  5. Hi there.

My machine has developed lots of different faults - generally the machine has been rendered unusable when it has broken so if yours breaks as mine did you will know. I hope that I am a stand alone case and that your predator 28stumpgrinder gives you the reliability that you would expect from such an expensive bit of kit. Contact me if things dont go well.

  6. Hello there, My name is Ian Tooth. I run Fox Earth Tree Services. I purchased a R28 Stumpgrinder from Redwoods some time ago. I have had nothing but trouble from this machine. Its brilliant when it works but most of the time its unreliable!! I would be very interested to hear from anyone else who owns a R28 and has had experienced problems. Please comment.
