  1. Thanks for advice. Point taken - time to move on I feel. Didnt mean to bad mouth anyone, just letting steam off, but yea valid point could of expressed myself in a better way
  2. Hi everyone! wanted some advice on a very akward arrogant boss! He owns a number of properties which are in conservation areas. He keeps on asking me todo work on treework on trees with TPOs and trees in con areas. When i ask if he has permission he says he has but when I insist on seeing the relevant paperwork he can never provide it and puts me on a guilt trip for not trusting him!he then gets really pissed off and makes out I am some sort of law abiding freak who is detatched from the real world. I normally check up online to see if he has made any planning applications but he hasnt. I have always steered clear of doing dodgy illegal tree work and want to keep it that way. I am just trying to maintain a professional outlook and I value my career too much to be pissing about on trees that I shouldnt be. He doesnt listen to any of my concerns and expects me to do as I am told! I am staying firm and tell him I aint doing anything till I see the paperwork but it has happened a number of times now and tensions are getting very high. I feel like pushing him in the chipper and feeding him to the pigs!No seriously any advice on how to deal with this guy?, maybe some of you more experienced guys can offer me some sound words of wisdom. cheers!
  3. I started off with a degree before I went into arb and woodland management. When I fininshed studying i started off doing practical voluntary work and after a few months scored a job as a crew member for a woodland management and treework co. I did all my necesary tickets and got 5 years experience. I started at the bottom with a good attitude and soon got promoted to team leader. Now I am managing 160acre woodland and running a firewood business. My advice is to keep humble with your degree. I am sure that a degree has shows that you are capable of a certain level of inteligence and that will help you in the long term. But, alot of students come out of study and the penny drops. They have know real working world experience. I know plenty of guys without academic qualifications who are far wiser and have more common sense than students. If you are looking to start a treework co you really need some practical experience. At the least I recommend that in your summer hols when you are not partying - i mean studying, you shoud try and get some work with a tree firm even if its voluntary it will look great on your CV and give you some real experience to relate to.
  4. cheers for all your help. im gona go for pruning of trees, shrubs and conifers, just ordered it off amazon looking forward to reading it!
