we put a 11hp honda on our 10 tonne sheppach. The spitter has a 2" ram but the engine often stalls under load before the relief valve lets go. The splitter was originally 3 phase. Never got to the bottom of the problem but often feel it needs the 13hp or a little diesel with more torque.
An electric motor has less of a tendancy to slow down under load than a petrol engine.
An electric powered 14cfm compressor is fitted with a 3hp motor but use a petrol engine and you'll need a 5.5 hp petrol engine...

These might help you decide, 1.> HiLo pump spec hp/gpm, 2.> Hydraulic ram speed/tonnage calulators...

I doubt if your hiring in a lorry mount the driver/operator will allow you to operate the boom. Theres a different IPAF license category for a mewp and a lorry mounted boom.
Ask yourself would you want to be in a cage with someone you haven't worked with before using a chainsaw, ask the owner/operator before you hire the boom different firms have there own HS Policies.
A person who is trained to recover the boom in an emergency on the ground, should always be part of the ground crew.

As stated above its all down to available pressure and flow rates. You could possibly fit a 2 stage flow rate pump if you intend mainly using it to power a log splitter.
Personally I'd buy a self powered splitter and save the fuel costs of the disco.
Below is a link to some calculation utilities that may help you and others.

So I spoke to them as soon as I opened the letter address to ms Wilkins not Mr Wilkins to find out what was going on!
I believe they have to have all your details "perfectly correct" to process with the prosecution. If its worded or spelled incorrect it doesn't apply to you. The letter is not addressed to you..."I returned it to Royal Mail for delivery to the correct addressee"...Not Known At This Address....

Zzr no it's not legal for private work but I'm pointing out as are some that it would be nice to see some ppe sold alongside the saw, even if it's a bit of a token gesture so at least people can protect themselves if they wish.
I'm sure after the people everyone reads about and posts on here wish they had some before they hurt themselves but that's all hindsight......
Sorry, we seem to have a mis-understanding, I fully agree that they should offer some PPE for the purchaser I'm not arguing that point, even someone you could ask questions, but thats what "Operator Manuals" are for the trouble is generally, they are just filed.
What I'm trying to clarifiy is for my own interest, "is there a legal requirement to have chainsaw certs for commercail work or is it a HSE recommended guideline that has now become the norm" as in people see a HSE guidelines as an unwriten law not a recommendation.
-
As I see it, its not a law that will get anyone arrested, more a code of conduct set by the saw manufacturers by which the dealers abide on the whole.
If a code is set, it becomes the norm, if it is then broken and an accident follows then the dealer who broke the code stands on his own.
The code has been set in response to the HSE guidelines on the use of top handles, which states that only trained operatives can use them. It therefore follows that only trained operatives should buy them.
That is my brief take on it. Others may have more to add.
I work in the mewp access industry there are the usual guidelines set by HSE, IPAF and other training bodies.
Its is not a legal requirement to have training or a operating ticket for a mewp, in fact there is no legal requirement to even wear a safety harness in a mewp, sensible yes but a legal requirement no.
I was at Capel Manor Show a few years ago, I asked about the cost of chainsaw training, I was lead to believe by their staff that I had to attend one of their mewp training course before I could attend a course for using chainsaw in a mewp, even though I held an "IPAF Demonstrators Licence".
Now don't get me wrong I'm not against training, but there are some companies/training bodies that are using the HSE guidelines just to screw money out of people for training.
And controlling the purchase and use of equipment by requiring them to have something that isn't even a legal requirement.
One question, is it a legal requirement to have chainsaw certs or is it just highly recommended for work purposes, not private home use???

And you lot dont even live near it!
Imagine living near one of the Olympic sites and in order for the rest of the world to arrive and everything go to plan, they change the traffic light patterns.
12 mile tail back for the blackwall tunnel at 7 am the other day, all because of one set of lights on the A2 have been changed and about 5 cars at a time get through.
.
They've done the same at the "Ship & Shovel Traffic Lights at Dagenham on the A13. Tripled the length of the traffic jam in the morning (took me an hour this morning to cover 3 miles) and now it lasts until midday slowly shortening over the morning, its funny how the "Highway" is almost empty even in the height of the rush hour....
One might think they playing games with us....

Just out of interest whats the max height/reach?

My first saw was a McCulloch Mini-mac. It was always a bitch to start when it was warm, never did manage to sort it, in the end brought a little husky 42 and never looked back, I still use the 42 a great little saw.

1b covers: trailer, tracked and lorry mounted boom platforms.
3b covers all self-propelled platforms, there are currently no height restrictions to any categories.
So you could pass your IPAF (cat 3b) on a 30ft boom and then the next day operate a machine that is driveable at 150ft...

Is it a desktop or laptop???
If its a desktop fit new drive as a master and install OS, anti virus, and any programs, then connect old hhd as slave and then "drag n drop" the files you wish to save.
If its a laptop the fit a new hhd install the OS then buy a hhd connector cable and again 'drag n drop'

I take its for the chipper?
An 8' x 4' plant type trailer with a floor is about 470 kg empty, if the trailer is for your chipper you maybe able to have a very minimal skeletal frame type trailer that will just get under your gtw.

Bullets and shells.
Only third party insurance required (little chance of damage to outside panels), although the gun cupboard/licence maybe a slight problem for the barrel (I believe it only requires a shotgun licence depends if its smooth or rifled) condition on firearms licence "Stump Removal Only"???
