  1. yeah , deff somethings to be thinking about think firstly we are not going to advertise our location, and all wood drops and such we will deliver only, this will avoid people coming to the yard.. the yard is behind three locked gates , and going to put up some mesh so people can't see in, Will put the chipper in the container and lock it inside, need to get some ramps, prob make some .. all our saws, and expensive climbing kit, gonna take home, won't let anyone leave their kit.. the trailer will need to be left outside and would have to lock this up, and keep it out of sight .. We watched a vid on FB where a tree firm was turned over, and they appeared to take everything, on the video, it looked like they knew where everything was, my first thoughts was it was someone who had been there before, maybe worked for them .. I imagine it must have been devastating ..
  2. We use trucks .. we tend to chip into bags for the most, we find that it saves a bit of time, and we also deliver chips by the bag load.. small jobs id take my truck with chipper, chip to the bag, load the bags in the truck.. big jobs second truck with trailer, can chip to trailer or bags .. we have never had a problem so far.. dont get me wrong, a tipper, is the standard and were looking at picking up the right one at some stage, but having trucks is workable ..
  3. Hi all .. so have had my lad working with me, he is turning 18 very soon and nearly finished his Alevels , he is still doing his driving atm, he has been real asset working with us, he works hard and knows his stuff, been great having him with us tbh, all of this is good and he has said he'd like to work full time for me, im never going to say no, and would rather pay my son and keep it in the family .. .. It would be useful to be able to send my son out on small jobs / clearance / pick up waste, logs / deliver logs , chips and such.. the long and short is, I need him driving, and ideal world a little truck, not a tipper or anything big, just enough to deliver logs/chips , carry some tools / strimmer , mower, take some green waste, run a few errands, go to some small gardening jobs ... Think the problem we are going to have is getting him insured, ? I have started looking at these little 650cc trucks , like the Suzuki carry trucks , tiny things but look kinda quirky and prob enough for him atm .. but most of these are jap imports and the insurance dont like it.. bigger trucks I doubt he would get insured .. Wondering if there are any youngsters out there who went through this, or what did you do with your Sons, or when you started out ? lol was a bit different when I was younger lol.. .
  4. Hi all. .. As it says were moving into a new yard soon, pretty good size with one container, I had hoped to put another container but the owner wasn't too keen on the idea we are getting this on a 6 year lease with a 3 year clause .. Was wondering if you guys leave your chippers out side? can't imagine its very good for them, putting this in and out of the container daily seems like its going to be a bit of a pain ? But at the same time I wanted to keep things as secure as possible.. ? Our trailers are going to be out side in the yard, as won't be able to fit everything in one container, but dont think this will be too much of a problem ?.. Wasn't planning on leaving any saws, or personal climbing kit on site, or small tools .. was mainly for waste, logs, chips , the chippers and such, and I was looking at buying a Spyder lift and a skid steer in the future, and hoped to split and stack logs .. any pro tips on keeping things secure Do's and Don'ts from experience ? its a exciting time for us but wanted to get it right ..
  5. the above post was from early on, forgot to press the button... anyway , im going to look at a TW230 this week, has around 800 hours and looks ok from the photos , it was this or a Forst st6 which was a lot cheaper what to look out for, any one of two things .. I know engines
  6. hi all thanks for the replies some useful info .. Im still on the fence which way to go, but going to have to make a decision soon .. been thinking .. if the prices of a TW150 was cheaper then id be happy with that, but seems like a lot of money for an old machine , tho I have found someone who sells them fully refurbished , Have seen a fair few Forsts now, some scruffy looking ones, but cheaper than the TW230 about the same price as TW150 .. I have been looking at some TW230 and I prob could stretch to around 10k Something id like to ask is there much init between petrol and diesel ? what would you pick and why ..? thanks ..

  8. so were still looking, we do have a few to look at , albeit on the cheaper side .. im kinda put off from the Forst now , tho they did seem to be a bit cheaper, but reliability is a must, I guess all things go wrong tho , does the Forst have the same engine as the TW ?
  9. the TW230 im only seeing them around 12K .. which is more than we had budgeted for ..
  10. oh.. I know the paint flakes off a fair bit, can you tell me more .. thanks ..
  11. this is what I thought, the ST6 was much inline with the Tw230 .. which is why I was thinking a Tw150 at 8k is on the higher side ..
  12. Hi all ... Im new to posting in the forum, tho have gained a lot of useful info in the past from here.. was hoping to get a little advice on some chippers from some more seasoned guys .. I run a small part time tree business, only modest but the time has come that we need to upgrade from our old faithful gravity fed chipper, we have put this off for a while now.. looking at buying second hand, our budget is around 8K, we have seen some nice looking fully refurbished TW150's and we have seen a few Forst ST6 for much the same price.. both look like they would do what we need, I'm guessing the ST6 is better and much newer, but would a fully refurbished TW150 be a better buy? that a STW with around 1000 hours on it.. ? any thoughts and experience on these would be great and much appreciated ..
