Tree firms in Tasmania anyone?

Recommended Posts

Things have changed in a big way since '06. They've got into big difficulties in the North West. Boyer has laid off workers and reduced the need for pulp.

My sister-in-law's dad ran one of those piggy-backed timber tugs and he found it really hard to make his living and I think the stress finally killed him too.

Yes there were many 'run-ins' between the greens and the loggers and Strahan was often in the news. David Bellamy took the whold thing to another level in the 1980's when he was arrested during the Gordon River protest. Franklin Dam controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is another place I'd say go and visit. As nepia has said 'just go there and sod the tree work'!

In the past one of the major Tasmanian exports was hops, today the opium industry has tanken this laurel. Single pivot irrigation circles that can cover more than 100 acres have made crop circles visible from space! An example;Tasmanian Midlands Irrigation Scheme brings secure water to farmers - Tasmania Country Hour - ABC Rural (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

This has bought its own problems with water availibility being one and disease being another. Alternative crops have also benefitted though being grown like slices of pie! This has resulted in the decline of the merino sheep and prized herds of black Angus cattle.
