Hi,

This week I was involved with the take down of a dead cut leave beech. At the end of the job there was a few vanloads of sawdust. What I understand (please correct me if I am wrong) is that if we left this fresh saw dust on the ground it would cause the soil to be denitrified as the soil organisms use up a large amount of nitrogen breaking it down? If we dug the sawdust into the soil would that cause the same effect?

Anyone with a simple explanation of the effects to the soil of putting fresh sawdust/wood chip onto flowerbeds etc. Thanks Steve
