Bleeding canker in chestnut

I've had a feeling for a while that this is a tad strong, and have now heard it from both Arborjet in the States and Glyn Percival from Bartletts here in Blighty, that Psuedomonas is treatable.

Chemical bark sprays, sapwood injections etc.....

I find this very scary as I did the somewhat "glib " attitude of Glynn towards the ectotoxic issues..it was perhaps no more than an impression I hasten to add ...

I dont know how you go about balancing the equation re tree loss versus the nasties but something just doesnt feel right when you witness the Bartletts fire engine gas stoked and ready to go with all that chemical...and they claim to drench whole trees with this system....

the answer must lie in a more holistic approach....

Good post Bundle!!

Presumably this "treatment" Could work out in the favour of someone very nicely if agreed as the best solution to the problem.

I am currently thinking that we simply will lose HC (Aesculus hippocastanum) as it is in it's current form for now, as it succumbs to the pressures of it's environment here in the UK. As a non-native I think this would be acceptable and perhaps explain why it is so vulnerable and suffered such with Leaf miner.

As part of natures cycle other Aesculus varities could become more prevalent, or perhaps hippocastanum will adapt and evolve. Perhaps nature will provide a natural predator.
