The reason for the reduction is because its getting too big for its space, its touching the garage on the left and back, it's also swamping a hawthorn tree on the right. I may be wrong but From the little knowledge I know about whitebeams is they need little or no pruning as they don't respond as well as others.

With that in mind I wasn't going to take a great deal off it. Aslong as its a few feet off the garages, and being shaped up.
