Hello all

looking to buy either an old billhook or new forged near Manchester or Derbyshire before this Friday as I’ve got some days helping out hedge laying this weekend.

does anybody have any ideas at short notice?

You might pick up a Bulldog one or similar, from Chelford Farm supplies. There will be other farm suppliers nearer to you, tho, I'd guess ?

If push comes to shove, we have several older ones here -South M/c based.

DM me for contact details .

Your best bet will be a Bulldog or Morris hook from an agri-merchant at this short notice. Stihl also make a billhook of sorts, so an agri store that's also a Stihl dealer may offer a choice.

None of them will be much good though and you'll need to spend about half a day putting a usable edge on them. If green heart above can sort you out with a working vintage hook that would probably be the best option.
