Salary: £41,771.00 to £44,075.00 per annum

Contractual hours: 37

Basis: Full time

Region: Warwick

Job reference: RA0007381

Make a visible difference to Warwickshire’s trees, places, and people.
We’re looking for an Arboricultural Area Manager to help care for Warwickshire’s tree stock and keep our communities safe. You’ll lead inspections and plan works, guide colleagues and contractors, and be a trusted source of practical, legal and policy advice on all things trees.

About the team and the way, we work

You’ll join our Forestry service within County Highways—a supportive team of tree specialists who manage the county’s public realm trees and provide consultancy to partners. The role is countywide, with travel, and includes planning proactive programmes as well as coordinating our response to storms and urgent tree incidents.

What you’ll do

  • Carry out routine tree inspections across the county, schedule the works, and keep stakeholders updated.
  • Shape and deliver strategies, policies and processes for sustainable tree management.
  • Coordinate emergency responses to storms and tree related incidents with Highways and the emergency services.
  • Manage budgets and performance for maintenance programmes and projects.
  • Provide advice on legislation (e.g., highways, health & safety, occupiers’ liability) and planning matters, including protected trees and conservation areas.
  • Lead and support Tree Inspectors; oversee contractors; and help improve our mobile working and GIS tree database.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, Members and partners, finding balanced solutions on emotive issues.

What you’ll bring

We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. If you can show many (not necessarily all) of the following, we’d love to hear from you:

  • A degree or equivalent professional qualification in arboriculture, plus membership of the ICF and/or the Arboricultural Association.
  • Strong experience managing large tree stocks—specifying, commissioning and monitoring inspections and works, ideally including local authority experience.
  • Applied knowledge of trees in built and natural environments, and the related environmental and planning legislation.
  • Confidence working outdoors and sometimes lone working; excellent organisation and communication skills; and a full UK driving licence.
