Top handle lanyard/carabiner mod

Hope some one can jog my memory here or offer an equally if not better solution… can’t remember when’re I saw this but a block had some sort of bottle cap maybe from a oil jug, with an X cut on the top over his saw lanyard connection point, this kept the biner ridged for quick holstering on  stiff gate tool carry. 
 

if anyone’s got a better solution to this (and don’t tell me to get a shembiner) let me know. Thank you people 👊🏻
