Tree recommendation for Aberdeenshire windbreak.

So the wife is struggling with the wind around the house and stables. So can you all recommend me a tree that grows reasonably fast and would grow well in Aberdeenshire to plant a row to act as a windbreak. It would be planted with a horse paddock on one side and agricultural land on the other. If you can also provide spacing info I would appreciate it, no problem with thinning out in 5 years or so as the house has a solid fuel heating system which needs to be fed.
