MISERDEN  -  ESTATE FORESTRY WORKER  -  NR STROUD, GLOUCESTERSHIRE  -  GL6 7JA

Miserden Estate is looking for someone to maintain 850 acres of predominantly broadleaf forestry. While the large felling operations are outsourced to contractors, this individual would be responsible for all other areas of practical management of the RFS award-winning estate woodland and parkland.

Duties include:
Maintain new plantations, including ash replacement and Christmas trees.
Maintain woodlands to the current high standard.
Manage woodchip supply and maintain boilers on a large biomass district heating scheme.
Deliver Countryside Stewardship requirements of coppicing, ride cutting and some winter feeding.
Tree safety survey: responsible for conducting routine inspections in line with the wider estate tree health and safety plan.
Squirrel control.
Maintenance of equipment including a Botex forwarder and tractor, winch tractor with Fransgard 8.5t remote control winch and JCB telehandler.
Grass cutting around estate owned village, assistance in the garden and some garden clearing of vacant estate properties.
Run a small in-house firewood processing operation.
Make Swedish lanterns, kindling and other timber products for sale in the estate shop.
Stock fencing repair.

The estate has a ‘one team’ approach, so while the individual suited for this role must be happy to work alone and be self-motivated, there is no reason to feel isolated and other members of the estate team can assist where necessary, so a good team ethos is key.

The candidate should have at least 5 years practical forestry experience. Qualified to fell and process trees over 380mm essential and the ability to deal with uprooted or windblown trees desirable (minimum NPTC Level 2 Chainsaw Qualifications: CS30, CS31, CS32 essential. CS34 & CS35 desirable) or Lantra equivalent. Pesticide Application (PA1 and PA6) desirable.

The candidate will have total autonomy of the enterprise and report directly to the owner, so good communication skills and reliability are important.

Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body is desirable.

Salary competitive, based on experience. Accommodation on-site is available.

To apply please email [email protected].  Closing date : 1st February 2021
