What's up with the Beech.

Me and my boss have been seeing a lot of beech of various ages/sizes with foliage that is either fully brown and crisp to touch or it has brown edges. We're in the Wiltshire and Somerset area. It's fairly widespread. Was wondering if someone could shed some light on what it might be. The photos aren't great, but do give an idea of what I'm trying to explain. Cheers.
