Scotland Branch Winter Seminar and AGM

The Scottish Branch’s winter seminar and AGM will take place at the Scottish School of Forestry (SSF), Balloch, near Inverness on Saturday 26 January 2019.

 

Location: Inverness College UHI, Scottish School of Forestry, Viewhill, Balloch, Inverness, IV2 5EA

Part of Inverness College UHI, the Scottish School of Forestry is primarily engaged in the delivery of forestry and arboriculture training and education. It has been delivering higher education since 1980 and degrees since 1996 and has an excellent reputation for providing successful graduates working in the forestry and arboriculture sector. The school sits in its own 10 hectare woodland in Balloch, making it the only forestry training provider delivering both HE and FE education within its own practical training environment.

Programme:
The event will be held in the main Scottish School of Forestry building – please report to the main reception on arrival.

9:30 Assemble for tea and coffee.

10:00 Welcome and introduction by Donald Rodger, Chair Scottish Branch.

10:10 Presentation by Stewart Wardrop, Chief Executive Officer, The Arboricultural Association.

11:00 Scottish Branch Annual General Meeting – see separate agenda. Including presentation of the 2018 Dr Tom Hall memorial literary prize.

11:20 Dr Henrik Sjöman, Senior Researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Scientific Curator at Gothenburg Botanic Garden ’Urban Trees of Tomorrow’.

12:20 Lunch – Provided courtesy of Barcham Trees.

13:00 Matthew Cooper, Director and Principal Arboriculturalist at Tree Research, Education and Environmental Services – ‘New Town, Old Solutions: Creating a Forest Garden in Livingston’.

13:50 Jocelyn McLaren, SSF Student – ‘Tree Risk in Urban Woodlands – a Study of Risk from Dutch Elm Disease in Aultnaskiach Dell’.

14:15 Guided tour of the college campus and an update on SSF’s work looking at environmental projects led by Amanda Bryan, Head of Forestry (interim) and Neil Stewart, lecturer in forestry and programme coordinator FE.

15:30 Conclusion and disperse.

The event is free-of-charge and all members and non-members are welcome to attend.
