Jeremy Barrell
Highway tree inspections; are you on the right side of the law?

Jeremy Barrell is the Managing Director of Barrell Tree Consultancy www.barrelltreecare.co.uk, one of Britain’s leading planning and legal tree management practices. He has been involved in six of the 11 civil cases relating to harm arising from tree failures that have resulted in written judgments in the last two decades.

In this presentation, Jeremy will report a summary of the current state of the nation in respect of highway tree inspections, and offer his interpretation of what the standard of duty of care is likely to look like in the future - having made a Freedom of Information request to all the UK highway authorities asking for information on tree failure related fatalities and injuries, tree risk management strategies, tree inspection protocols, and training programmes.
It is anticipated that, when published in 2019, this data could form the basis for designing a “clear, detailed guidance” on highway tree inspections.

Josephine Hedger
Competitive tree climbing - how useful is it for a production climber?

Josephine is the founder of Arbor Venture Tree Care www.arborventuretreecare.co.uk
and Arbor Venture Training. She is a LANTRA Instructor and NPTC assessor while continuing to climb as a production climber in her company. In 2013 Jo's company Arbor Venture Tree Care became an Arb Approved Contractor.

From 2008 Jo has represented the UK chapter at the European Tree Climbing Championships (ETCC) and the International Tree Climbing Competition (ITCC). Since then she has achieved 3 World titles and 3 European titles. Jo also achieved a world record for the fastest female footlock event in 2008/2009.

Jo's international endeavours are sponsored by DMM International Ltd and she is an ambassador for Husqvarna.
In this presentation Jo will describe how she started in competitive climbing and what she has achieved since. She will also talk about the educational advantages competitive climbing has given her during her career, as a production climber and Arb Approved Contractor. 46513166_2259526977450696_5030638684920086528_o.thumb.jpg.528b7ba1f8b597fd392963310cb7e926.jpg
