  2. Blue Bird 2-stroke winch , best deal on AgriEuro WWW.AGRIEURO.CO.UK Blue Bird Industries 2-stroke winch with semiautomatic acceleration Anyone got one? They're going for €650 odd. Not much on YouTube about them. Look kind of junky compared to the higher end Eder/Docma/Portawinch etc but half the price. What think you?
  3. Hi I'm looking for a PTO Winch, ideally around 5t, in Scotland and around £1k. Any pointers would be grand, thanks Jock
  4. We are looking to get a winch fitted to our Toyota Hilux - Does anyone have any recommendations for a company that could supply and fit one and/or the best brands to look at ? We are based in Kent. Thanks !
  5. Hi All I've recently brought a tirfor style winch and I need some slings for it. However I am led to believe there are two different types of slings. Ones for pulling and ones for lifting. I've had a look about and it seams all the big arb stockists only stock lifting ones and the only pulling ones i can find are 2ton of less which are used for vehicle recovery. Does anyone know where I could get suitable winch slings from?? or am i barking up the wrong tree?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Dan
  6. Hi all I have a fair amount of oak log to fell, Done a bit just skidding behind the tractor but as we seem to be getting more of this sort of work I am thinking of getting a 3 point linkage winch. But am not sure what size or make to go for? Any advice would be great!

    Winch Help

Any body have an idea what make this winch is? Many thanks
  8. Further to winching timber out of our sloping wood, a little reading around, and the opinion seems to be in favour of the use of skidding cones. This seems particularly so in USA/Canada, but I found a couple of positive pieces from the FC. However, a quick trawl of the usual uk purveyors of forestry shiny things did not turn one up. Anyone any opinions on the value of using cones, and any vendors in the UK that you are aware of? Ta CC
  9. Does someone have an up to date risk assessment for winching operations that I can use?
  10. Morning all, I was hoping to get some advice regarding winching and the kit I need. I work for a wildlife charity and whilst I've done a fair bit of felling work I've not done too much winching. We tend to only take down trees of 15" or less and use winches to assist with directional felling. I am planning on getting a Tirfor 516 (for the larger jobs) and a Lug-all (for the day to day). I thought I knew what I needed until I looked at a supplier and saw the range of ropes, strops, slings, pulleys etc. available! I am working to a budget but obviously want to be sure that the kit I get is suitable and safe for the work we are doing. Any advice anyone can give would be really appreciated! Thanks!
  11. Has anyone in the vale of glamorgan area got a big forestry winch that i could hire got a huge tree i want to pull out from the bottom of a steep hill cant really cut it up where it is thanks
  12. Hi all, we're having to replace the rope on a Norse skidding winch, does anybody know what to replace it with?! We've looked at the Marlow Dyneema rope but it is super expensive! Is there decent alternatives? and I'm not sure what diameter we need to get, the one that being replaced looks about 8mm, we want to get 100m length of it so the price soon adds up! Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!

    Hi

Dermot here, stumbled on the site while looking for a winch..... read some of the treads and was well impressed, same attitude as i have, see if you can help someone and share info.... i do a small bit of tree felling, thinning etc, ive a stihl ms660, 029, 192t and a kombisystem km130r with pole pruner... drive a hilux also have a major tractor saw and built my own log splitter... I have a job coming up that i will need a skidder so im thinking of a thwaites 3 - 6 ton dumper with a rear winch.... cheap and unbreakable combination or am i missing something?? thanks for views, criticism, all taken on board... thanks!
  14. Hello all, First post on here, hopefully in the right place. I'm looking for someone to carry out tree inspections in central Scotland area (more or less the whole of). If anyone's interested please get in touch. This would hopefully be a fairly long term arrangement, but most likely on an as required basis. On a more urgent note, does anyone have a winch available in the Stirling area in the next week or so. I'm looking at a job tomorrow clearing blow and, by the sounds of it, hand clearance is going to take 'til next Christmas. Again, if anyone is available please get in touch. I'm a computer ludite, so I assume you can get in touch by finding my details in here....? Thanks Wallis
  15. Hello folks, We own a small patch of largely conifer woodland on a steep slope, and have investigated lots of potential solutions for small scale timber extraction. A portable winch seems to offer many advantages in terms of getting timber to where we can process it, and I wonder if anyone had any thoughts on capstan winches in a forestry setting. In particular, the Cyclone 3000 seems a likely candidate: Cyclone Winches Ltd - Capstan Winches Anyone any experience of this brand? Thanks for any pointers
  16. The Riko winch mentioned in my other thread has ceased to be. Not economical to repair. Have looked at both Uniforest (Riko) and Farmi, and like the look of Farmis. Johnathan Latham's casually informed me that their web page is 2 years out of date and they dont do Farmi anymore, and Corwen Forestry are not the best at responding. I am in N Yorks (7 miles from Leyburn Lad if his soubriquet relates to his place of residence) but realistically expect to purchase over phone and have delivered. Any pointers to a good dealer? Cheers in advance.
  17. We need a new winch, and are considering the Weblift 3200kgs. It comes in at half the price of the outstanding Tirfor. Question is, has anybody out there got one or used one, as I can't find any reviews of it anywhere. Please DON'T bother with all the '...nothing's as good as a Tirfor...' I know they are great, but want to know if Weblift are any good/well made/ up to the job. Cheers!
