  2. Hello, Iam posting this on behalf of a reputable Arb consultant who wants a BS 5837 survey carrying out in the West of Scotland, Bonawe PA37 . No subbying, working direct with the client. Tel Robert Oates 01244 661170
  3. Hello, Would like your opinion on the above. Do you use any Tree Risk Assessment forms in your line of work? Our Tree Team (I work for Local Authority) may be looking into starting using tree risk assessment forms when issuing fells to highway trees. We have been asked by members of the public to provide a "report" when they question our decision. Anyhow, would you say ISA's form is a standard in UK or is there another type of tree risk assessment form that is more frequently used? Do you use an electronic version? We use tablets with specialist software when inspecting street and park trees so electronic version would help. Carrying paper forms would be a total ball-ache. I have asked our software supplier if they could develop the existing system to incorporate ISA's Tree Risk Assessment Form, but was told there are too many tree risk assessment forms (implied ISA's is not the standard form). What is your opinion? What do you use? Thank you. Regards, B PS: Apologies if I'm repeating a subject, but I tried to search the forum for this topic, but gave up the search at posts dated January this year...
  4. Dear all, We have places available on our next Lantra Professional Tree Inspection. The three-day course aims to provide specific tree inspection training at an advanced level for competent arboriculturists to enable them to identify defects. At the end of the course candidates will undertake a competence based assessment directly related to tree inspection. The course is not aimed at covering report writing; however, presentation of findings will be examined and advice given. Course objectives · Recognise the role of the tree inspector in risk management. · Identify the legal framework in the context of statute and common law that affect tree inspection and the duties and liabilities of the owner, manager and inspector. · Summarise how a tree system functions · Adopt a systematic and consistent methodology for carrying out visual tree inspection at an advanced level with the aid of binoculars, mallet and probe. · Collect data out in the field in accordance with the inspection instructions. (For this course a written survey template with appropriate headings will be used). · Recognise a range of observable mechanical and biological defects as seen in trees and confirm by the use of textbooks where necessary. · Identify a range of commonly seen pests, diseases and disorders that affect tree safety · State the appropriate control/remedial measures required to eliminate or reduce risks identified. Determine when an aerial inspection is required, also if pro-active management recommendations can be made which may eliminate future defects from forming. · Prioritise the necessary tree/management works with time scales based on a broad category of risk assessment. · Identify when it is appropriate to recommend the use of decay detecting or measuring equipment, based on a basic knowledge of the working principles of commonly available equipment. Start Date Wednesday 20th June to Friday 22nd June 2018 Cost £500 Contact us on 0303 003 1234 ex 1245 Or mail us @ [email protected]
  5. I have been tasked with looking into this old chestnut again. My general approach is to work out what software would achieve our needs then select a device with the required ruggedness and spec. This time were coming at it from the reverse. It has been suggested that we get some Windows 10, (as in desktop OS run on a rugged tablet) Rugged windows tablets. We have a device in-mind (MESA2) which looks very impressive however I have absolutely no knowledge of data collection software for windows platform. Previously all my forays have been either Android or windows mobile based. I'm aware a lot of desktop style software tends to focus on asset management style surveying for Local Authority. We do not typically have much use for long term asset management style software. In terms of usage we would mostly be looking to use the software for condition surveys on large rural or remote locations. The ability to plot tree potions with a reasonable degree of accuracy just so they can be found again and add attributes to something like and attribute table and export the resultant data to DXF SHP or similar is essential. It has also been floated that we try to source some software that has the flexibility to carry out BS5837 surveys. I am infinity dubious as to how effective a single piece of software may be in both scenarios. It may be the case that two separate approaches are used? What ever the software, the output would need to be 100% customisable in order that it can fit into our current report presentation / style. Any one with some thoughts here please do let me know. I've found that much of the software still on offer uses Windows mobile which is tragic in my view given how far things have move on since 1997. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi all, At Access Ecology Ltd, we undertake ecological surveys and design mitigation strategies for Natural England protected species licences. As an ex-tree surgeon holding a bat worker licence, I run our Arborist Support Team providing ground-based and aerial surveys of trees to ascertain the presence or absence of bats and nesting birds. To comply with H&S we're looking for casual sub-contractors to accompany our ecologists on aerial surveys. We don't undertake tree surgery works but ask that our contractors have 'Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Rescue' certification as a minimum, we can supply climbing kit if necessary. Contractors would assist in climbing the trees and recording findings on field survey sheets. We are based in South Yorkshire but work across the country so please feel free to provide me with your contact details wherever you may be based. My contact details are below and I look forward to hearing from you, Jonathan Moore 0114 2587819 [email protected] Ecological consultants providing approved bat survey and phase 1 habitat survey - Access Ecology
  7. Afternoon all, Im looking at purchasing some new map based data collection software and GPS logging hardware. Wondering if anyone has experiences good or bad of what is out there. Im a consultancy outfit so it is simply accurate data capture that I need, no budgeting or Customer management bits required. The hardware, I have already made a decision on but as yet undecided on software.. Depends on price, adaptability, ease of use, continual development etc. PocketGIS is an option. The standard Ezytreev, Arbortrack are a little more than I need for the work I do. Many thanks
