  2. My employer runs training courses alongside his tree care business and has asked me if I would like to provide the training as the usual instructor has stopped. I work as a full time climber and have worked for 7 years He has asked me to do tree access and aerial rescue CS38 Do I need to be qualified as an instructor? How does the insurance work if there is an accident? How much do instructors charge per day? Who should provide the trainees climbing kits? Any information welcome! Thanks
  3. I came all the way from Brazil (no Arb. culture there folks) for the training course with Rol and it was more than worth it.,so I would like to pass it on. I did my NPCT training and assessment with Roland and his crew (Martin and Jamie) at Roland Heming Forestry & Arb. Rol was really helpful with all the arrangements. The fact they could provide the accommodation and PPE was essential for me due to all the travelling I had to do. The B&B have good roomms and service. Every morning I would have an amazing breakfast in the B&B and walk to the training center, it´s literally just in front of the inn. The facilities are brand new and the equipment is all up to date. The theory and practice were spot on. Both the chainsaw and the climbing courses had a great quality on the practical aspect of the courses. We would go to sites with big trees and where "the job had to be done", so we could get real life situations while being supported by the instructors. The assessments where all schedule right after the course with an independent assessor. Rol offers great facilities, good place for practice, good professionals and practical solutions. But, above all, he, Jamie and Martin are great guys. I could count on them trough all my stay. If anyone is looking for a place to train I can really recommend this guys. For sure I´m coming back for Rigging and Large Tree Fell! roland heming forestry and arboricultural training and assessment WWW.ROLANDHEMING.CO.UK chainsaw and arboriculture training and assessment, course costs, venues, nptc certification, climbing and aerial rescue

  5. We've been working with the Utility Arb Group on a suite of qualifications for the sector, and plan to have them launched this summer. If you would like to know more, and are coming to the Arb Show, come and have a chat to us on stand T19. All being well I will also be stealing a few minutes in front of the audiences at some of the utility demos, thanks to AUS ltd.
  6. Hi All, I am running a course with Cumbria Woodlands on Bats and Trees, this December. It's targeted at Arbs and Woodland Managers etc and aims to show people how to risk assess trees for bats when undertaking tree surveys or pre-felling checks. We cover; where bats live, what to look for, how to rule features out, how you'd know if a bat was using a tree and what to do if you do encounter bats. It will be held in South Cumbria, within easy reach of the M6, and is only one day long. At the end you get a CPD certificate. You can find the rest of the details here Bats and Trees | Courses & Events | Cumbria Woodlands Cheers, Rich
  7. Cumbria Woodlands are offering a subsidised course on Bats and Trees. It's a one day course, held in the south of Cumbria (but not too far from the motorway) and looks to address the issues of risk assessing trees for bats. You'll look at the types of features bats use, as well as how to identify potential roosts and how to rule bats out. It's aimed at Arbs, and Woodland Managers/Practitioners who may encounter bat roosts or need to make an assessment of a potential roost tree prior to felling. You can find the details here: Bats and Trees | Courses & Events | Cumbria Woodlands ---------------------------------------------- Mods: Please remove this is you deem it to be unacceptable. However, it is genuinely relevant to Trees and the Law in the UK, and may be of interest to some ArbTalkers. Cheers, Rich
  8. If you need a LISS/CSCS card for site work, you'll need to undertake a ROLO (Register of Landbased Operative) course. Call us to reserve a space on 06 Nov 15.
  9. I have been a groundman for an experience tree surgeon in the South West for the past couple years and I'm looking to get qualified. Initially looking to do my CS30/31. Does anyone know anywhere where I could do these courses over a series of weekends in order that I don't have to take time off work. Doesn't have to be in the south west - I don't mind travelling. Thanks. Rex.
  10. Due to the demand for our recent 'Wildlife and Woodlands' Training Day CPD courses we are running 2 further stand alone one day courses on the following dates. Friday May 30th 2014 and Friday June 27th 2014. The course is run in Suffolk by highly qualified practitioners and is specifically designed for those who work with trees, in estate or woodland management, arboriculture, or conservation, and who would like to add to their Continuing Professional Development by learning more about woodland management, protected species (particularly British bat species) and the law. The course is also suitable for anyone who is working towards a Natural England Bat Licence, a barn owl licence, or a great crested newt licence. In order to make sure everyone can gain the most from the day places are strictly limited to 8 and will be available on a first come first served basis. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you require any further information. Thank you.
