  1. Hi everyone, I'm new on here so sorry if I am not posting correctly (someone let me know if now). So I hope to become a tree surveyor or some sort, basically have the role of doing lots of site visits (don't want to be office based) and assessing trees whatever job title that may come under. I'm doing my level 2 arboriculture now and am going to start my ABC level 4 course in September. I also already have a BSc in Agriculture/ Plant science as well as lots of practical experience as groundie. Is there any other qualifications or training I should do to open doors towards these sort of jobs for me? Am I likely to just have to get any role (e.g. tree officer) after finishing my level 4 just to get experience whilst I study more on the side? Should I be doing a different course? Or could I get a surveying course straight of the back of these qualifications and work my way up? Sorry lots of questions, even if you can only answer one any replies at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance :)
  2. Hi everyone, I'm currently doing the Level 4 diploma in arb and looking for any information on the approximate cost of hiring a consultant to use PICUS 3 on a single large tree. Any information on the cost of hiring a consultant to use and interpret a resistograph and increment borer too would be really helpful. I'm based in the south east of England. Thanks a lot.
  3. I have read a few posts from people in my position taking a change in career. I am 36 now and am aware that I am not going to be the strongest climber for much longer. I am half way through the NPTC Tree Surgery course at Kilmarnock College. I have my climbing, rescue and chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting tickets and am looking for some opportunities to gain some more experience. By the end of the course which finishes in June I will have my small and medium felling and aerial cutting tickets also. I would like to gain some work experience and start earning asap and so have been contacting some of the larger companies who are more lightly to provide additional training. I have also contacted the smaller companies. I have looked on ArbJobs.Com but there is no drop down for Scotland in the regions selector. I am interested in developing my climbing and cutting skills and am aiming to develop my skills with a view to a career in forestry and conservation. Any guidance or advice you can offer would be appreciated. All comments and suggestions welcome.
  4. I've just had an email asking if anyone know of someone that would be ready/nearly ready to attend the NPTC Assessor Training course for Chainsaws. To be eligible to attend they must: • Hold the equivalents of CS30/31/32 City and Guilds • Be technically evaluated in the qualifications they want to assess • Hold a full first aid at work certificate • Have observed two assessments If this is you and you can make the course schedule for 19 - 22 Oct, get in touch with Wendy Farmer at NPTC.
  5. Hi i am after doing my cs30/31where in manchester do training? Is there any funding for the course? Thanks dan
  6. Just finished my cs38 (2013) with Roland heming in motcombe Dorset and have to say it was the best week training I have ever done. Very professional with loads of laughs thrown in for good measure. Roland and Martin (other instructor) push you according to your skill level and make sure you are moving towards being a good climber not one who can just pass the test. Lads came from not only Dorset but Kent and Guildford a real testament to the reputation Roland has. I would recommend the instruction to anyone with great instruction and very reasonable cost.
  7. Hi, I am trying to find places that I can study aboriculture in more detail. I have my cs courses but need to study more of the science stuff as I want to head towards doing surveys etc. and also just to better my knowledge. I've looked at the ABC awards level 2 and 4 and I would probably do fine starting at level 4, I've been told a lot about the RFS cert, but i'm really not sure which course I need to do or where for that matter, as I can't seem to find any courses in the North of England. I work full time so evenings would be best, but could take a day off if needs be, alternatively if there are any courses that run full time for say a month or two, I could potentially go and study elsewhere in the country. Any help would be appreciated about which courses are best to do, and any advice on where is best to go!? Many thanks
