  6. So, I use a subcontractor his standard is very good, and I've put him though pretty much all of his tickets, he also gets his own work - not a problem. I trust him to do a good job and leave him to it. As with most Arbs they don't like being questioned. All fair enough. The question I have is about a broken gravestone, in my opinion it's the guy who does the cutting that is generally responsible for his actions? It gets slightly more complicated as the guy doing the lowering, is a young lad. I had previously lowered another using a 3:1 system and raising the branch maintaining control, used the lad to be eyes as it wasn't that easy to see Arb cutting etc. Looking at the broken gravestone (1896!) Arb took 3:1 system out, expected lad to drop it at the right time, doing his own thing, I was chipping some stuff as I don't want to be constantly questioning what said Arb, or other competent Arbs do. Who is liable? I do have insurances, his opinion (and no apology) is that it's my business I have to take it on the chin. Over to the floor
  7. I am working with one groundsman two too three days per week and a climber one too two days per week. They are both self-employed but i am unsure if they are in reality bonafide subcontractors. They both do their own work outside of my business. They provide their own saws and fuel, kit etc. They both invoice me for work done each week. They have signed a document to say that they will be responsible for their own tax and national insurance. But i do guide them when on jobs as to what to do. Do small businesses get prosecuted for not having the correct employment status for workers? Is this something i should be concerned about? If they dont pay their tax am i liable? I do not have any contracts and do residental work. Would i be better using a zero hours contract or a Contact for Services? Or leave well alone?! I would welcome advice. Thanks
  8. Climber needed to work in South West London ! Freelance climbers needed to work in South West London ! Between 1 or 4 days regularly or even just for one offs if available , we have a lot of larger contracts early on in the year on different golf courses and in schools. Hardy Tree Surgeons is a small tree surgery business based in Putney, London which has been in business for over 20 years. The majority of our work is through recommendations and repeat work. We carry out a wide variety of work, private woodlands, golf courses, schools, survey work, installing bat boxes, chainsaw milling and abseiling eyebolts! ( plus a lot of rigging and zip-lining!) We try to maintain a strong work ethic carrying out work that is best for the tree this often means we take longer to carry out the work hopefully achieving better short and more importantly long-term results. We always spend a bit longer to make sure the work is carried out to the highest standard rather than having targets to hit which can cause jobs to be rushed. Ideally self employed sub-contractor initially but potential to go employed/manager at later date please get in touch to discuss further. Pay is dependant on experience (£150 -£180 as freelance) ~ 7:30/8 am - 4/4.30 pm Please email CV or give me a call if interested. 11. I've just got back from New Zealand and i'll be here for a few months. I am a self-employed climber looking for a couple of days a week, ideally in the Gloucestershire area but I'm willing to commute further if people are in need of a good worker and can offer a good rate of pay. I have 5 years experience in the industry, 3 years as a subby climber. I have a Level 3 extended diploma in Arboriculture with distinction Tickets from chipper to rigging, first aid and full clean licence. I'm hard working and easy going, with good organisation and communication skills and experience in all aspects of tree work and all operations like reductions etc are carried out to the highest standard. I can email a CV and provide references and copies of qualifications etc on request. Give me a call on 07934782915. Cheers, Hamilton
