  1. A quick question. I tow regularly with the Ranger (manual) and on the hills can use engine braking to save cooking the truck brakes. I've driven auto cars but not really had any real weight in the load. How easy is this in a auto? Asking as I'm looking to upgrade and there are a few auto versions available. Mitsubishi and Isuzu. Any downsides to be wary of? Cooking the auto fluid?? Cheers
  2. Hi everyone, hows it. Just got back from a lekker trip in South Africa to visit my girlfriends family. Could anyone provide me with some hard facts/truths regarding potential opportunities to work within the Arb industry for a Brit in SA?! Love to hear from saffas or anyone else which has also tried to do so. Currently have 3 years experience with majority of the NPTC tickets and also my IRATA level 1 rope access. Thanks In advance.
  3. New member alert. I've just started my training as an arborist and am really enjoying it. I hear the guys mentioning ArbTalk so thought I'd check it out. I've had to order men's PPE as women's chainsaw trousers and boots don't exist yet. I was wondering if there's any women on the forum? I've heard of a few but there doesn't seem to be any groups or anything to join. I didn't know what picture to upload so here's me next to an insanely cool yew. Thanks Natalie
  4. I'm really enjoying carving as my new hobby, I've done 9 mushrooms so far, I thought the mushrooms would be a good thing to start with to get used to the control. the first few were a bit suspect but i'm quite pleased with the later ones. I haven't got a carving bar yet, I'm using my little 235 Husqy with a 14" bar which can be a bit cumbersome. I've posted a picture of a few, I have since sanded them down and i'm quite pleased with them. Couple of questions to you old hands: 1) what is the best treatment to use on the sculptures? linseed, beeswax etc? 2) what would suggest I attempted next as I feel i'm ready to step away from the mushrooms? (so does the wife as there are 9 in the front garden now!!) Thanks guys.
