  5. Nearing decision time on a new splitter - which will be a tractor mounted vertical. It'll be used out in the forest and at home so PTO is an obvious necessity, however I'm just debating on whether it's worth also getting the electric motor option also. The thinking being quieter when at home, independent from any tractor breakdowns and also future proofed for if diesel use becomes an issue in future years. As the splitter is an expensive purchase and one to last a lifetime, the latter point is probably most important behind the thought but just wondering whether I'm over thinking/worrying about something that might not happen and whether it warrants the extra cost (approx 1k) of the elec option ?‍♂️. Thoughts welcome and also whether anyone has experience of tractor mounted PTO splitters with the elec option and how much they use it? From the data when in elec mode it's considerably slower than when run by the tractor!
  6. Any recommendations on logsplitters? Its for home use, so I wondered if there are any Heavy Duty Electric splitters around, as lower maintenance, noise, running cost than a petrol and will always be used not far from socket. And a motor should be cheaper than engine making cost of splitter less. There's hundreds of 4 -5 ton horizontal splitters at B&Q, screwfix, amazon etc but i think they all come out the same chinese factory but with a different branded box? Need one that splits stuff 2 - 3' dia not just twigs you could easily split with an axe. Anything more powerful? I know Oxdale do a 10ton electric model but found build quality poor when I used to have a tractor mounted splitter from them, and wedge wasn't a good design far too small. Company called Rock Machinery do one 12ton looks good (pics attached), anyone know if these are any good? Or other recommendations? Many thanks
  7. Evening, Been looking for a bigger log splitter for the oversized lengths to then put through the processor. Then saw one of J silk agricultural on eBay and seems to be ideal for the job and not a lot of money compared to other splitters. Just wondering if anyone else out there has got one or used one and what they are like and if any good? Any comments would be much appreciated. Cheers tomTom

  9. I hope to buy this 16-20 ton log splitter to run off my RB44, the Ebay seller says that it needs a flow rate of 30 liters per minute and a min PSI of 2300 - 2500. 16 - 20 TON HEAVY DUTY TRACTOR MOUNTED HYDRAULIC LOG SPLITTER | eBay Can anyone tell me if the RB's hydraulics are deffo up to spec for this? I already have a three point linkage on the back of my RB and am adding some extra pipes reach to the rear of the truck so hoping this will just be a case of bolt on, link up and start splitting!!
  10. Hi all, I've decided to take the plunge and purchase an electric log splitter. I've got around £400 - £500 to spend on one and just wanted to ask peoples advice on here prior to making a purchase. Is there any that shine above the others that I should be considering? Many thanks in advance. Steve.
  11. We are looking for a reliable and robust petrol log splitter for our yard to split a multitude of timber in all types of sizes following tree work completed. There are so many on the market and I have no knowledge of good or bad machines to avoid or consider. It would be very useful to get some feedback from other user experiences of different petrol log splitters. Thanks to anyone that has time to reply. Mark Hines

  16. Hi Guys thought you might be interested in having alook at my home built log splitter. My dad and i built it from an old bail spike frame and an 8" H-Iron girder. The ram if off an old digger and the rest of the steel was what we had around the farm. It will split 21/2 ft thick rings of any diamiter and it can be raised an lowered on the 3 point linkage to make it easyer to lift big rings on to it. It is a tad on the slow side because it runs off the tractor spool valves. But i am planning to fit a PTO pump and resivoir to the splitter to speed things up. Incidently if anyone has an old pto pump knocking about and are willing to part with it then give me a shout.
