  1. Hello, I’m wondering what this striking tree is in Parc Leopold, Brussels. The fruit look like green apples on the branches, but on the ground they are rotting to reveal big stones like peaches and they smell slightly lemony. It’s shed nearly all its leaves now.
  2. Hi Everyone. a friend of mine messaged me these pictures and said this tree has grown on the border of their boundary. What species would you say it was? thanks as anyways
  3. Hi, Puzzled by this one? Had lightly fissured bark and low densely branched form. Was thinking Crataegus sp but no thorns. Apologies pictures aren't great. Any ideas appreciated.
  4. Hello Arbtalk Members, I was hoping someone could help with confirming a tree identification. I live in Essex with a North Facing garden (open to fields) in which I have, what I have been told, a Turkey Oak. It is multi stemmed and around 50-60ft. I want to know for sure what it is because it behave very differently from the oaks around it. It is limp whereas the others are sturdy, it gets its leaves later and starts to shed them much earlier, even as early as July, along with a lot of dry twig and branch breakage (it does have new growth each year). It does not produce acorns but instead sheds hundreds of clusters of pea size dry black pod like 'fruits'? that I cant find images of on the net (do not appear to be gall fly oak wasp balls). There is some bark damage/rot (not sure) I have tried to post some helpful images although can take any others needed. The leaves and twigs pictures are example of what is falling in July. Really appreciate any guidance you can give. Thanks in advance.
  5. both pics, same tree apparently. any ideas? Ta.................
  6. Hi all, if you can help shed light on what tree this is would be much appreciated. They are causing shade over a garden & I'm wondering whether to advise felling, pollarding, or leaving them to get on with it. Only problem is that I have absolutely no idea what tree they are! Thank you for sharing your wisdom in advance! In case the picture doesn't work - it is about 30m tall with a curving trunk. The bark has distinctive diamond shaped lesions in silvery bark. Very wet ground in a flood zone. Here is the pic https://www.dropbox.com/home/Crowdy%20Mill/Amy's%20pics?preview=Photo+12-03-2017%2C+11+01+58+am.jpg
  7. Hi friendly people, I'm new to arboriculture, only having grown trees for a few years. This year I bought myself a couple of 2-year old apple trees and planted them. Both trees seem to be doing well but have developed what looks like different problems. I can't find out what they are so I thought I'd post photos and see if anyone could help me. The first tree has brown spots on quite a large number of leaves. The second tree has problems only at the ends of branches. The leaves curl up and turn odd - it doesn't happen to any of the other leaves which all look healthy. Any clues would be brilliant! thanks, Oli
  8. Hi, I need help identifying a tree... I've tried the leaf questionnaires and tried searching, but I'm not getting anywhere, so I thought that someone here could help... I live in Australia, and it's currently Winter. Thanks so much!
  9. Hi Guys, I am at collage studying arboriculture and have recently started doing about pest and disease and am wondering if anyone could recommend me an identification book to carry when working and seeing jobs for both fungi and pest and disease. I realise that a definitive book wont be out there as our understanding is constantly changing but is there an identification book out there worth getting for arb purposes? Cheers Conall
