  1. I want to start by saying I know nothing about trees, but I think the two in my front yard are not healthy. They have black bark almost all the way around and it is brittle and falling off. The trees still produce a lot of leaves, but I want to make sure they are healthy. Any thoughts? I think these are oak, but unsure.
  2. Hey guys, My 2013 Vermeer bc1000xl won’t start, it cranks but won’t fire. I have narrowed it down to being my fuel solenoid isn’t getting power and I have no idea why it is not. The computer is not allowing the solenoid to get 12volts for some reason. If I plug it in directly to the battery the Solenoid will open and I get fuel and she runs but if I wire it correctly the computer doesn’t send power and the solenoid stays closed and lets no fuel past. Any idea of how to fix this? has b3.3 Cummins motor
  3. Hello all. Had this head for a while now and just decided I'm gonna rehandle it. Have any of ya'll got any info on this axe eg brand, age. There's no makers stamp or anything on it It's got the lugs on it like a good old Kent pattern but the cheek profile is completely different Cheers 👍
  4. Hi I have inherited my little brother's belongings and equipment after he passed away and want to put them to good use. We have two burners at home and with the way bills are I'm desperately trying to keep the house warm for my boy and miss. I'm trying to offer my services either chopping wood for someone who struggles in return for some myself or to do some labour and get some wood in return. Local to bishop Auckland if possible please however I'm willing to travel. Cheers Tom
  5. I have been having some issues with my 362. It starts fine but after some use it starts to cut out when it idles. More often it starts fine again but sometimes it takes a few pulls. Although it will eventually cut out again. The other issue I can identify is that the chain oil doesn't drain when in use. I have removed the bar and run it and the oil comes out of the hole yet for some reason it never drains the the tank when the bar is on and I use it. Any advice would be appreciated.
  6. Hi, I have an upcoming job that I wanted to get advice from others on. It is a dead loblolly pine that is around 100-200 feet high and surrounded by fences. The fence isn’t much of a problem and I think it can be avoided or replaced if worst comes to worst. My main concern is safety for me the climber and the ground crew. The drop zone if I try to save the fence is small. It has very few remaining limbs. There are no other trees around that I could tie into for safety so pole climbing seems to be my only option. Are there any safety tips? I’m thinking about purchasing a tree squeeze in case of gaff slips but I have never used one.
  7. Hello all, I bought this spear and Jackson axe at a Carboot yesterday for £1. Ive searched the Internet for hours trying to find the model and age of it but there's litterly nothing. Have any of use seen this type of one before? It weights about 1lb an it's very small, at first I though it just had plenty of use and the edge has wore off a cm or so but when I looked at it properly the bevel looks like it hasn't been wore off at all. Cheers for the help! 👍
  8. I have recently bought the 2000W Corded Chainsaw 40cm - CS2040 | BLACK+DECKER and think it's due for sharpening. I've spent ages searching for one that is compatible and I'm lost with all the choices, and different measurements? Can you advise on what would suit a 'girly' that is simple to use and does the job. Thanks 🤪😳

  10. Hi, I am currently doing a school project in which we have to choose a patch of land, and design and create a hypothetical woodland scheme. For part of this, we have to identify the trees/shrubs around the perimeter of the field. If you could help with this, it would be much appreciated. Apologies the pictures are not very clear, and I am aware there may be multiple pictures of the same species. Thank you. 11. Hello so I have a STIHL blower bg56/86 not sure, so I tried to pull it over and got one rotation out of it then the pull cord snapped I’ve had it in bits and the crank and everything looks good I’ve got the exhaust off and the carb off and it still won’t pull over but with out the spark plug in it pulls over fine no odd noises or anything I’m stumped as the cylinder looks clean, it feels like it has way too much compression and just snappes cords I’m stumped please help

  13. Hello, I am in my second year of an arboriculture degree. I am doing some research into the public demand of clients/customers for an arboriculture business that produces no greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. I would be deeply grateful if you could all fill out the survey linked below and help me get some results for a potential dissertation project. Thank you, Jacob Croasdale. Can you spare a few moments to take my survey? WWW.SURVEYMONKEY.CO.UK Please take the survey titled "Public demand for an arboricultural service that produces no greenhouse gas...
  14. Right, I know very little about the stump grinding business but I am eager to get into it. My boss has said that he is not interested in doing any form of stump grinding so I thought I would capitalise on it! He only does domestic work so a lot of the time it will be narrow access (fitting through garden side gates). I am looking for something that is self-propelled but the deck does spin. I know there is a huge market so I thought I would ask the people in the know who have used these machines before. They are all much the same but their prices obviously vary so does the brand really determine the prices? I am looking for some advice on what I should go for like a Bandit HB20, CARLTON SP2010, FSI B22, Predator 360 and 460 In your opinions what do you like best? What are the running costs like? And if any of you guys are thinking of getting rid of one or know of a great dealer, I am based in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Any advice would be appreciated. Many Thanks,
  15. I am currently a Dairy farmer and looking for a career change into Tree Surgery. I have a background in Outdoor Education so have done plenty of climbing (Rocks), and I’m not scared of physical outdoor work, in all Conditions. I just wanted to ask if anyone had any advice on how to get into the industry? I would love to do a course to get me qualified but understand that I will need to keep learning for a good few years in the Industry. In in particular I need to know, what qualifications would I need before I can start earning money? Do people usually have an employer in mind before committing to a course to gain qualifications ? Thanks in in advance for any advice, Cheers!
  16. Hello, I know this is a massive newbie question but as this is the place for people in the know, I thought why not? I am currently using a farmers yard (a friend) to store my chip and logs (and lots of cords) we are starting to reach max capacity for all now. My farmer friend reckons there are at least 2 articulated lorries worth of chip and many many many tonnes of timber. My question is do Biomass plants accept our chip or do we have to go through other means? If they do how do I get in contact with them? Also, who would be the right person to talk to about taking the large cordwood off of our hands? Happy for it to be professionally chipped or for firewood processing. Basically looking for someone who wants to buy either: my woodchip, timber, logs (in large scale happy to sort the delivery) If it helps I am based in Basingstoke in Hampshire. Many Thanks,
