Forest Craftsperson vacancy - Bathurst Estate, Cirencester, Gloucestershire The Bathurst Estate is one of the country’s oldest and most beautiful rural estates and is set in the heart of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Beauty. The Estate covers some 15000 acres of parkland, woodland, and farmland, of which the woodlands comprise approximately 3000 acres. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person, with experience of working with in forestry, to join our woodland team. The role will be to assist in the management of estate woodlands and the obligations of a higher tier stewardship scheme, as well as helping with the firewood business and wider estate maintenance tasks including trimming the tallest Yew hedge in Britain once a year! The job is predominately set outdoors and although there is a range of mechanical equipment available to help with most tasks, there shall also be a level of manual work which makes it quite physically demanding. Your responsibilities shall include: · Tree planting & establishment · Weeding/cleaning · Herbicide application · Coppicing · Tree felling · Harvesting & extraction · Chainsaw and equipment maintenance · Woodland & Estate maintenance (to include dealing with windblown trees/fallen branches, fencing repairs, hedge cutting, track maintenance) · Processing & delivering firewood · Carrying out risk assessments · Report to forest foreman and manager Essential skills and experience · Full UK driving licence · NPTC chainsaw certificates (minimum – maintenance & cross cutting & felling and processing trees up to 380mm) · Experience in forestry or related areas · A positive approach to health & safety · Good problem-solving skills, and being able to work on your own or as part of a team Desirable · Emergency First Aid at Work · NVQ Level 2 in Forestry (or related subject) · Pesticides certificates (PA1/PA6) · Forest Machine Operations certification (base machine plus winch, forwarder, skidder etc.) · Driving licence to tow trailers · Powered Access Licence (IPAF) for use of mobile elevated work platforms You will normally work for 40 hours per week, and will benefit from a competitive wage (dependant on experience) and 20 days holiday per year in addition to Bank Holidays.   3. Gerry Ryan here from Abbey Sawmills Ireland. I'm enquiring in regards ash tree's suitable for hurley's and if any forestry(contractor,harvester,consultant) come across this product from there line of work. My team and I have over 20 years experience in forestry(felling,saw milling). We have full public liability and required chainsaw certificates to fell ash. And my tree surgeon will fell roughly between 50 - 70 ash tree's per day. Ash suitable for hurley's description The ash suitable tend to fall in the 20 - 60 year old span,with a breast height diameter of 20 - 50 cm being the optimum range. Only the bottom 3 - 4 feet(1.3 meters) of the tree is suitable for hurley's which leaves the rest for chipping's,milling or fire wood. I am currently paying in the UK for ash tree's suitable for hurley's £ 230 per m3 for quality ash. I can also provide pictures of the ash tree's which we have sourced throughout the UK,Ireland and other European countries this past year and also a video that will show the type of felling that takes place if interested.   4. Hi I'm looking for a a part-time forestry worker to work in connection with an estate management contract on the Hussey Estate, Lamberhurst, Kent. Work will be varied and will also include general estate duties. Pay will be dependant on experience. NPTC chainsaw and felling qualifications essential, plus experience with machinery. Other qualifications (Towing licence, CS 38,39 etc) a real advantage. The right person will also be working on other contracts with Discover Trees, where the work will include; tree surgery, forestry and agricultural fencing.
