  1. Hello, has anyone on here gone through the HCC level 2 online course? Im two years into my Arb journey and I’ve been interested in getting quals and eventually becoming ISA certified. I would like to know what are the most valuable qualifications to get ahead, as well as being as good an arborist I can be? Is this a good course to go through to further my arb career? Are there any other qualifications I should get instead? cheers
  2. Hello any help here would be greatly appreciated from people who are currently doing it or have completed it all ready, please throw in your two cents. I have been in the industry for a couple of years now, I am capable at climbing and looking to further my knowledge of the industry. I was looking at the level 2 rfs course, I see there are a number of places that do it (myers, hcc). I am looking to do it purely online as I stay in Scotland and sub contract my weeks out. Sorry if this has been posted about but i could only find very old info through the search function. Cheers
  3. I am student currently studying level 3 Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture in North Wales. I am in my final year and nearly finished and looking to gain experience into the arboricultural sector around the North wales area. I hold my basic chainsaw up to 38mm and strimmer/brush cutter tickets and will have my high ropes with chainsaw and pesticide tickets soon.
  4. Hi everyone, im in my final year at college doing L3 arb and forestry. I am looking at different employment options when i leave, and like the idea of starting my own business doing woodland management (woodland clearing, thinning, tree felling) and selling the nice timber to the mill, and the rest as fire wood. I have access to tractors and an area too store wood in the dry. Obviously there are a few questions i have before starting up, so any help would be appreciated. -How easy is it to find work doing woodland clearing/thinning and tree felling? -Any tips/advice for this type of work? -How to you guys sell your nice timber to the mill? do you just give them a ring before you cut it or after? -Is there money to be made selling firewood? -How do you deliver your firewood? pickup? Thanks in advance
  5. Currently living in Bristol looking to change to an arb career - seeing as I have no qualifications yet I need to decide on which one to do - there seem to be loads of different options. I'm origionally from Ipswich and have family there so I'm looking at moving back home to go to college with a view to getting an apprentiship when I can. Has anyone been to Otley & Easton college, or know how their courses stack up against the expensive intensive courses avaliable elseware? Cheers

  7. Hello All, I am currently working on a self employed basis for a fencing company. For a while now I have felt that I would like to become a tree surgeon. I am due to complete CS30/31 at the start of next month which has taken me a while to save up for. Is anybody aware of any entry level-online qualifications that I can complete while I am still in full time work? I know there are college courses available out there but if I could work full time for a tree surgeon and learn the theoretical side of Arboriculture then this would suit me much better. Also if you feel that it would be better to go back to college instead of completing a course online please let me know. Thanks Luke

  9. Hello all I am currently doing a lvl3 award in arboriculture and have been asked to do a 50 page assigment. I chose to do differences in performance and prices in leading brand chainsaws. It will mostly be covering the 2 main marketers, Stihl and Husqy But i have also chosen to cover the less admired manuafacturers e.g. ryobi, makita and echo. I would be very grateful if everyone could leave a comment on what their fave saw is and reasons why, also what would be handy is putting down the worst saws you've used, and reasons why. any help will be greatly appreciated chappys
