  1. wet verses dry - when do we chip christmas trees - when green, or wait till needles drop? We are a brand new community composting scheme, and our first task is taking the communities christmas trees. I googled for advice on whether we need to chip the christmas trees immediately, or whether to stack them until the needles drop and then do it BUT I am getting confusing stuff back, with 50% saying chip immediately and 50% saying wait till wood is dry. HELP please! Advice on what chipper / shredder to hire would also be really helpful. We are a bunch of amateur volunteers, and this is our very first task - so we really wanna get it right! Thanks.
  2. Certified chainsaw operator sought to work north Bristol for 3 weeks work to help with Christmas tree harvest. Must supply own chainsaw and ppe. Fuel and oil will be supplied. Work all weathers. Contact Simon on 07717 220086 and/or a bit of information about yourself to: [email protected]
  3. Hi, I was hoping someone may be able to give me some advice about growing Nordmann fir trees from seeds. I have a set of seeds that have been through their dormancy and are now sprouting, planted in a tray. In a previous attempt the shoots reached a height of around 8cm, I then transferred them to larger pots but their growth completely stopped, and they hadn’t really established any roots. Did I replant too soon? Any tips are appreciated!
  4. If you live in the Adur district you can put your Christmas tree out and it will be collected on bin day pick up. Finishes this week. I guess they don't have much green bin to collect but it's a great service. Any further details required let me know. http://www.treelc.co.uk
  5. Hi there, last autumn i started a new christmas tree plantation (4000 Nordmann Fir). I've been told to apply Kerb granules around the trees but im not sure if they have been in long enough to do this. Would it be safer to use next winter? If its ok to put on now, wil the trees be troubled if the granules make contact with them i.e spread over the top of them or should it be spread directly onto the ground? Lastly, i'll be planting another 2000 on march 10th, would it be wrong to apply the granules around these trees until the next cold snap? Any info would be extremely helpful as i am a novice!!!! Thanks Adi
