  1. Hi Arbtalkers, we sent out an Instagram post yesterday asking this question and have had some fascinating replies so thought we’d ask here too. To see the Insta post and join the conversation click here but can you take a moment to answer this questionnaire too? We are keen to find out how people get into arb (and by default perhaps get an insight into how people don’t hear about it too!). If you'd like to tell us more, please comment - we'd love to hear from you. We're running the poll for just over a week and will share the results afterwards. Thanks, Kate & Beccy

The long and short of it is that we are wondering whether any of you have any video clips that you could share with us as we would like to make some videos to share on social media, spreading the word about jobs in Arb. Any short video clips would have to be high quality, filmed in portrait mode and with safe working practices. If you’re up for joining in please let me know here and I can share contact details to get us going. Thanks in advance for any content or comment. Kate & Beccy 😊

  5. Hey there, first time poster on this forum. I’m a 21 year old based in Edinburgh, Scotland and looking into becoming a tree surgeon. I have experience with a saw and can run one with decent confidence but don’t have any tickets. My main question is what is the best way to go about getting qualified. I’ve looked into getting nptc and it does seem pricey. would a company usually put a new “apprentice” through there training or do they mostly look for people with previous training/ nptc certified? I would much prefer trying to get on job experience rather than doing the college route however I would consider it if it’s more likely to allow me to break in to the industry. any help here would be appreciated, cheers!

  10. Hi everyone I am new to the site. I am 32 years old, I live in Liverpool and I am thinking of leaving my well paid office job and get myself a trade in becoming an Aborist. I am currently earning 40k a year and I am aware that I will have to take a big dip or even cut in half my salary by making this career choice. Some of you may think I am mad but I am really tired of the office politics and sitting behind a desk all day. I feel really connected with nature and this, I am not new to hard graft I used to work on sites building universities and hotels as a labourer but never actually had a trade behind me. My plan is to get a month intensive training from Kingswood training centre in Kent which do a full starter course which gives me... NPTC 201/202/203 (CS30/31) – 5-day Lantra Chainsaw Maint. I know its not going to be easy. I am worried about not finding work due to my experience after forking out 3 grand on the course. I would just like peoples thoughts on this who have experience in the business, especially those starting in their early 30s. The money is secondary to me and job satisfaction is more important to me now. The idea of maybe one day having my own business and this line of work which has so many aspects to it is exciting to me. I would love to know peoples feelings on being an arborist, does anyone hate the job? if so why? do you love it? what would you do differently if you started up again? Look forward to hearing your thoughts
