  1. I've hand drawn diagrams for a general membrane, Cellweb, wood chip pathway with 6x1 shuttering to the edges for invasion into the RPA. are there any digital examples on the web for me to bling up my report?
  2. We have submitted a planning application for a replacement dwelling with an attached garage. Part of the garage sits within the RPAs of a Lime Tree and a series of Beech trees (please refer to the attachment). Because of this, we have received a refusal from the Arbroiculturalist advisor within the Council. He stated that the only way to get planning is to either: a) Amend the scheme to remove the garage, or b) Provide overriding justification for construction within the RPA of the trees, as per 5.3.1 of BS 5837. For reference, BS5837 states: "5.3.1 The default position should be that structures (see 3.10) are located outside the RPAs of trees to be retained. However, where there is an overriding justification for construction within the RPA, technical solutions might be available that prevent damage to the tree(s) (see Clause 7)..." 1. Does anyone know of any examples of an overriding justification that has allowed construction within the RPA? Thank you.
  3. Hi all, After years of creating tree constraints plans for customers, I've decided to create a few videos to show how the basics are done in CAD. So if you are interested in getting started creating tree constraints plans for BS5837 surveys for yourselves then head over to my free course here: ActionCAD's Create Tree Constraints Plans Course I haven't used a professional to produce the videos so I am sure they can be improved and would welcome your comments. Regards, Rob.
  4. BS5837 (referring to NHBC 4.2) makes very clear recommendations as to the distance that new planting should be from existing buildings. The distances are greatest for tall, 'thirsty' deciduous trees in clay soils adjacent to buildings with shallow footings. Can anyone offer a view or legal precedent as to how much duty there is to take BS5837 into account, on the part of a developer designing, or the Planning Authority in determining a planning application? The case concerns an extensive mitigation planting carried out as part of a planning permission.
