  2. Can anyone clear up the two rope working? yet again a guidance document is full of 'appears' and 'ifs'. I do not feel that there is a clear line to follow, there is a lot of leeway for everyone to follow a different path. Everyone will also believe they are following the guidance correctly. It will only be when its all to late that we will find out. can anyone point me in the right direction, is it: 1- ALWAYS have two ropes connected to separate anchors where possible. When changing one of the main anchors a third rope/line is used to maintain two ropes all the time. 2- ONE main line is used around the tree. When cutting or in a place which may cause a swing/pendulum a second line/lanyard should be used. Once out of a swing position and not cutting you can ascend and descend on one line. 3- NONE OF THE ABOVE. ICoP Tree work May 2020.pdf
  3. Has anyone done the assessed route for professional membership with the arb association? Any advice?
  4. Hi all I'm torn between two courses - the Arb Association's Intermediate Tree Inspection and Land Skills' 2 Day Tree Inspection. I need a stepping stone between the Lantra One Day basic course and the Professional Tree Inspection course. I'm thinking the Land Skills one as it's being run quite a lot sooner and is a bit cheaper, and seems to have the same basic material. Any help or suggestions, especially from anyone who's done the courses, would be great. Thanks!
  5. Hello Hello I've been working in the industry for around 3 years now and I'm in my second year of studying Arb' at Inverness Forestry College. I've been a member of the Arboriculture Association for almost two years and it seems to me that we never seem to have any training/workshops/talks etc from the AA North of the central belt. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) As a student/arborist in training I would love to attend many of the events/training that the AA put on but the nearest are in Edinburgh or similar. I'm based out of Aberdeenshire so once you include the cost of the course, travel, accommodation (depending on times) and the loss of a days work then it's just too much money. I know guys working full time who are not happy with this either. So I'm hoping some of you will help me change that... I've been in contact with Duncan Slater about giving his Tree Fork Assessment workshop at the Scottish School of Forestry in Culloden. He is willing to do so but his funding comes from the AA. He has passed me the contact details of the relevant person at the AA so I can request that they put on the workshop. I feel the request will be better received if I already have evidence of a wider interest for the workshop to go ahead. Here's a link to an article about Duncans' work: https://www.trees.org.uk/News-Blog/Branch-News/Assessment-of-Tree-Fork-Workshops-announced One of the guys I work for has been to the workshop and highly recommended it to me, which makes me feel it is worth the effort. If any of you are interested can you comment below so that I can gauge how much support there is for this to go ahead. I feel once we've had a successful workshop we may be able to open the gates for more! I'd love to hear your thoughts either way. Cheers in advance Amy
  6. Hello, Is anyone North of the central belt going to the AA Scottish Branch AGM tomorrow? I was hoping to share at least some of the journey with people but so far no luck and it's a 4 hour journey for me. I'm coming from Aberdeenshire but I could easily stop along the way to share the journey. *fingers crossed* someone's going! Cheers Amy
  7. Good afternoon all Those of you that are members of the Arb Association will no doubt have received an email informing you of the Logo change that will happen in December. I was wondering what peoples thoughts were about this change? We have roughly 25 vehicles in our fleet all wearing the Arb Association logo and now have the daunting prospect of replacing it on all of them. The costs will be phenomenal. I fell bad for the fleets that are bigger than ours! It seems that the members had little or no input into the changes.
  8. Ground Control is delighted to announce that they have become Arb Association approved contractors!
