  1. Does anyone have insurance for a tree surgery van in London for under £1000? Last year I paid £807 fully comprehensive. The renewal quote is £1680. Even allowing for 10% inflation that's a 90% increase.

  3. I’m looking to fill odds days/weeks preferably with Van and Chipper, willing to travel up to an hour away from Eccles. I’ve taken my foot off the ball due to my Dad being seriously ill for several weeks (sadly he passed away before Christmas) I have all the relevant tickets, also use of a climber who’s pretty decent, quick and comfortable with big take downs. I have a young family support and need to get back into work ASAP Rates negotiable If interested contact me on 07577592430 I’d appreciated it if someone can post this on Facebook for me (I don’t do Facebook) Regards Mark
  4. Watching crash test vids on YouTube this eve, got me thinking about unrestrained cargo and bulkheads. My 04 Kangoo has a really Mickey mouse bulkhead, if you can even call it that. A few tubes with weak mesh in between, no way it's going to stop a generator, heavy tool box or 10 bags of cement travelling at 30 - 80 mph. Research reveals that even solid bulkheads will buckle under severe impact, apparently the aftermarket ones are only required to be rated for 25kg at 30kph/mph or something. There are tie down points, affixed with an 8mm bolt, but I wonder if that is actually enough to hold a heavy load? I have a couple of boxes bolted down to the tie-down threads, one is plywood and I have a notion the box would actually shatter rather than pop the bolt. Bit worried about the whole thing. I really don't want to have to ratchet tie-down every tool in the van. Thinking about fabricating a really strong metal box as big as the van bay, maybe a foot tall, with a hinged lid, and bolting that down to all four tie-down points, but that's nearly more difficult than building a metal bulkhead. Any thoughts on this?
  5. I'm looking for someone with a small truck and chipper to get rid of some branches at the end of this week, or beginning of next week. Blade should be 6 inches minimum. We will stack branches in a pile to your specification. It should take an hour or so. Please Pm me with price and contact number. Thanks.
  6. hi guys, is anyone selling a chip truck at the moment? Preferably between £3000 and £5000. If not could you ask around? Many thanks, Jake. 07969146309.
  7. Three years ago, before I even started climbing trees I bought a Transit van to get around the place (on the recommendation of a tree surgeon friend from Dorset.) A year later it became home to a harness, rope and hand saw. Now it's filled with 4 chainsaws, crates of climbing gear, crates of rigging gear, big shots, pole saws, rakes, blowers, fuel cans and smelly boots all spread over the floor. I keep thinking to sell the big tranny (actually it's a short wheel base low roof - but still pretty big I reckon) and go the aussie way and get a Ute. Especially after I have to spend big money on repairs (Transit parts in Australia are exxy). Only 50,000 miles since 2002 (the first owner did 20,000 in 7 years!) so it's in pretty good condition but it's about time to line the inside and throw in some shelves so I can better organise all this equipment. I've got a few ideas but wondering if anyone is will to post pictures of their van showing a neat line up of chainsaws, hanging ropes etc since there must be a few of you UK arborists using Transit vans for your arb gear. Cheers, Steve
  8. Hi Guys Cant see an info anywhere here or on the net so any advice or experiences appriciated. I have an iveco daily 35s11 and i i love the old girl. The problem i have is i need some extra transport for when i have big jobs on. I can't see buying another motor will be cost effective but i cant see why i cant turn my three seater into a crew cab. I have even found that i can buy the fixings, seats and belts all new from parts supplyers to complete the job. Has anyone done anything like this all i want to know is will i have to re-register the veichle and or have it all inspected as if it were a kit car or something. All because of having changed from 3 seat to 5 or 6. Obviously it will need declairing to the insurance legal like. Cheers Marcus
  9. I'm looking to buy a Hilux or similar for weekend work. Just wondering if anyone had anything for sale, or any advice for me. I'm currently still a student so looking for a truck as an everyday vehicle as well as for jobs. Im looking to spend 3 to 4k. Cheers!
