  1. New here. I don't know of anywhere else to seek advice on this. So here we go. I volunteer for a small charity that do conservation work in the Scottish Southern Uplands. We currently have relatively low grade "strimmers". An old Hitachi grass trimmer and a newer Stihl FS70. We need to invest in a serious upgrade to tackle forests of Gorse. Our Lantra trainer recommended the Stihl 400 series because we will need the mulching blade and scratcher blade kits. The question is. What is the sort of minimum power required to saw and mulch gorse that could be 2-3 inches thick, 12 ft high and acres upon acres? I was thinking the Stihl FS 461. We don't have heap loads of cash either. So even a brand new Stihl clearing saw is a big spend for us. We are going premium brands though. Not taking a chance on cheap crap that may look good on paper. Thanks.

  3. I have an Stihl 023 chainsaw that I’d like to fit a carving bar too. I use it for fencing work and would like to try a carving bar for morticing posts. Could someone point me in the direction of a good bar and chain? currently running a 16” regular bar.
  4. Working Saw,runs and cuts amazing, insanely responsive, sits dry, no leaks/drips, sharp chain, new pull cord, new spark plug. Made in West Germany, mainly metal construction. Bit rough around the edges, rear handle is damaged but has been made usable, kill switch missing so turnoff with choke. PXL_20230324_141923884.mp4
  5. Hi all, first time posting on this forum. I'm rebuilding a 2007 stihl ms880. Saved it from the scrap. The history of the saw is it's been used for 2 months, then sat on a shelf for years. Then when using for the first time, the piston popped and since then has been condemned. I don't like seeing fixable tools been thrown away so I jumped at the task to give it a shot and rebuild. At first glance I thought a new piston was all it needs but further inspection need to change the crankshaft bearings, seals, gasket and new cylinder head. I've bought £150 in parts, but from further inspection it Could potentially cost another £450 My plan was to use the saw for milling. My question is, is it worth me to continue with the build with the potential it not work at all. Or should I just sell it for spares Cheers 👍

Here is an Egan Straight Shot Muffler, makes a big difference to throttle response and cooling off the saw. Also sounds very nice and opens the saw up! I have purchased this but no longer need it as I've sold the saw without it! Any questions please ask

  8. I’m looking into getting a 365 of mine ported. I’ve spoken to spud but he’s to busy at the moment anybody know anyone else that ports? Preferably in the south west.
  9. Have anyone in the uk cut a gob over 50%+ to drastically charge the weight of a tree? I know it won’t work with certain wood like ash and most hard woods the risk of barber chair is to high! But on soft wood? I’ve seen a few westcoast guys doing it to trees! I just wondered if anyone in the uk does it occasionally?
  10. Is there a company that makes hemp chainsaw boots? Any suggestion would be lovely

    Stihl 08s Help

New member here. Have just come into ownership of an old 08s,turns out the entire chainbreak assembly is missing (everything apart from the hand guard) does anyone have any photos of an 08s chainbreak assembly? Or dose anyone know where I can find the parts? Thanks in advance
  12. Oakridge tree care here can anyone give me feedback on the ms500i i currently use a ms 660 is there much difference
  13. Hello! I have bought a Stihl MS 500i a little over a year ago and just after I bought it I hurt my knee. When I called Stihl directly they told me that if I sold it on eBay the warranty will expire as the machine is registered under my name only. Plus I don't know what would be a fair price to ask for as it won't be under warranty. Any thoughts would be highly appreciated as I simply don't know what to do. Many thanks in advance!
  14. Hello so I have a STIHL blower bg56/86 not sure, so I tried to pull it over and got one rotation out of it then the pull cord snapped I’ve had it in bits and the crank and everything looks good I’ve got the exhaust off and the carb off and it still won’t pull over but with out the spark plug in it pulls over fine no odd noises or anything I’m stumped as the cylinder looks clean, it feels like it has way too much compression and just snappes cords I’m stumped please help
  15. Hi I have a 2017 stihl 201tc, bought with a broken air filter cover, have replaced this and put air filter all back in, the saw now struggles to start or run. Any advice or tips on what to look at next
  16. Hello Everyone I've inherited an MS181 Iv'e had it for about 18months. It was probably sat for 6months before I managed to get it going. I've replaced the air filter, Spark plug, fuel filter and it runs ok. But from cold it always only ever starts on half choke no matter the weather and soon as you touch the throttle it just bogs and dies. It's ok when it warm up but as soon as you pull full throttle it bogs & dies. I've cleaned the Carb out about 4 times adjusted the High, Low and idle screws and same effect. The next option is new Carb Kit for diaphram etc and then potentially a new carb. A new is carb is about £60.... I know its not much in the grand scheme of things but this saw might be 7 years old and I have no idea if it was looked after before and a new 181 is £250.00. I'm looking at a new potential Top handle for the future MS150/194 or 201. Is it worth spending the extra money on the 181? or just scrapping it and given up on it? Any help appreciated. Take it easy Liam
  17. Hi all, I have an old Stihl 064 Chainsaw that is in need of some parts. I thought parts for these were fairly easy to get hold of until I recently searched the internet. The saw is a great workhorse, that was, until somebody drove over it in the truck. But it has survived remarkably well. Also, what happened to ‘Mister Solutions’ ?? Any help appreciated to get the old girl going again. Thanks.
  18. Not sure if this is the correct forum for this but if anyone can assist I’d be very grateful... I have a Stihl TS410 Circular Saw which won’t start, It had no compression when I got it so I’ve replaced the head, piston, piston rings and bearings as the piston was badly scored by the snapped rings. It has new fuel in it and a good spark, now good compression, I’ve checked all fuel pipes and everything that I’d removed to do the piston fix but it still refuses to fire. I’ve swapped the carb for a known working one but still nothing. But it has got fuel coming through to the air filter, I’m assuming that this is happening because of trying to start it so often. Does anyone have any ideas? I’ve exhausted all my avenues so far... Thanks in advance
  19. Anyone know where i can get a sprocket for a stihl 020AV Super in the uk? Stihl part number is 1114 640 2001 3/8 picco, TIA
  20. Was hoping to buy a 661 in the next few weeks, would it be worth waiting for the 500i to come out? Still very new but out a year in the US and getting great reviews, meant to be as light as a 441 and an absolute BEAST. what do you guys think?
  21. Hi! I have a stock Stihl MS180 (2-mix) chainsaw. I need a little more power. I would like to mod the carb and the muffler only. Please write me, how to do it, and attach pictures too! I would like definitely change the original chain to a faster chain. .325 would be great?
  22. Im looking to buy a battery top handle to replace my stihl ms201. Ive got my eye on the stihl msa 160 and the husq t536lixp. What experiences do you guys/girls have with them?? Im not sure which one to go for!!! Which one would you recommend?? Cheers
  23. Hello, I am new to this forum, as it was suggested by my local tree surgeon. There are a few STIHL/HUSQVARNA dealers around me, but what I want to know is which one would have a good selection of products on show? I am in 2 minds to either go with cordless or petrol. Cordless seems like a good long term investment, as the battery is compatible with many optional tools in a range. But wondered if the power is there. Thanks Danni
  24. Hello Members. Bought a new MS 661 today - for use with an Alaskan mill and slabbing. Not for me but an experienced son. Also getting the MS 880. Collected it personally and asked for advice on mills and the options available. Well, was basically told that such a saw was not designed for such use and I would be back with issues, not normally, covered by the warranty ? Seemingly, such a saw does not like being used in this way and will be 'shaken' to death ? We will also have issues with the fuel mixture, bolts coming loose and the air filter ? It was suggested, helpfully, that we consider changing the bar for a smaller pitch and use a rip chain. Oh, and the best option for us, is to buy a Lucas Mill ! What are the thoughts of others please..... Thank you, Mark.
  25. Bought yesterday, with the 12" bar a single 200 (4AH) battery and quickest charger. Wow, what a beautiful saw! Lighter than I expected, just so nice to use. Picked it up and went straight to work, removing a sycamore from a roadside wall. Didn't bother with ear defenders, didn't need them. The saw feels extremely controllable, no gyroscopic effect except for a very slight vertical nose lift. Did the sycamore down to about fifteen feet, and topped a small cypress, still had three lights on the battery. It does demand mindfulness as the saw could potentially un-break itself on branches, so was hyper-aware of break and throttle position when picking it up. The torque, relatively slow chain speed, quietness, complete lack of vibration etc. made the working experience more "studied" - more deliberate, I would say. Easy and instant communication with groundie was a blessing. I find I'm developing a kind of pseudo-fetish for the 160t, I keep going to the shed just to pick up the saw and hold it, marvelling at the design and technology. Would recommend.
