  1. Good afternoon all, I am currently using ArbPro but find it a little restrictive and would like something that incorporated some logistical planning element to it, has anyone got any ideas?
  2. Hey guys, I have my company in Toronto operating for over 2 years now. Quickbooks has been good but I find it difficult to have multiple system in my day to day operation. Do you know any software that can do everything, scheduling, estimates, invoicing in just one tool? Would love to hear suggestions! Thank you.,
  3. Evening All, I'm lucky enough to be in the process of buying a house and outbuildings in my small corner of France. Luckier still there is around half an acre of chestnut plantation, current average DBH of around 15-20cms. Spaced 4 metres apart with 5 metres between rows. Questions: 1. Are these stems too big to effectively coppice? 2. Which other firewood/native species can I inter-plant? (which will tolerate the shade of the canopy, which is currently pretty full, but which will be broken a little by the first round of thinning/coppicing?) I'm aiming basically to turn this regimented mono culture into a firewood producing, wildlife/ dog walking area.
  4. Hi to all. I am seeking some advice on how to manage this beautiful beech tree. Pics are not completely true to the real stunt this tree produces when you see it. I know that some of you have a lot of knowledge on this kind of trees and I would really appreciate some help. It is in a woodland near Wiltshire, it belongs to a friend who is looking for ways to make the tree a bit safer without damaging it. There is, unfortunately, a footpath running right under the tree and a public road and public land a few metres away. I think that changing the footpath might be possible but the tree will still have a third of the crown over public land and near the road. It has, as you can see, a broken limb and several dead branches, some cracks (right under some seriously big limbs and one along the trunk?) and a bleeding lesion?? The tree's diameter at chest level is roughly 6 m. Thanks for reading.
  5. Hi All, Take a look at this: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM1TMsNnF98]Grey Squirrel Bark Stripping - YouTube[/ame] Anyone suffer bad damage this year? Any thoughts on most effective control methods? Thanks
  6. We've been filling out forms!..... Any thoughts (good & bad & indifferent) on Glastir Woodland Management? Glastir Woodland Management offers grants to manage existing woodlands that are 0.5ha or more in a single block Glastir Woodland Management, along with the Glastir Woodland Creation scheme, replaces the Better Woodlands for Wales (BWW) scheme and completes the Glastir Woodlands Element. The scheme is targeting Welsh woodlands to deliver the following Glastir objectives: managing soils to help conserve carbon stocks and reduce soil erosion improving water quality and reducing surface run-off managing water to help reduce flood risks conserving and enhancing wildlife and biodiversity managing and protecting landscapes and the historic environment new opportunities to improve access and understanding of the countryside To help deliver positive outcomes for these objectives, area and capital grants will be available for the following operations: thinning restocking infrastructure boundary work protected and priority species vegetation management pest control public access
  7. I am currently looking for a small woodland to buy in the south east of England where I intend to establish a forest garden and produce coppice products as well as manage for biodiversity. I'm not expecting it to be commercially viable, I just want to persue my interests while owning a peice of land which (hopefully) be a good long term investment. Any small woodland owners out there have any advice on buying/managing e.g. things to look out for and check/unexpected costs etc. any thoughts would be much appreciated.
  8. I'm about to start an MSc in Forest Ecosystem Management at Penrith Uni, and am considering where it may lead- so I was wondering about whether anyone here has done a similar degree or qualification, and what they are now doing?
  9. Afternoon Ladies, Anyone seen or tried ARBORSOFTWORX, looks a bit tired but does it do the business (sic.), or do you use another off the shelf product, I know a couple of you have QUICKBOOKS, any thing else? Cheers:thumbup:
