Hi all I'm 25 years old and changing my career from precision engineering to arboriculture, I've got my cs30/31 coming up next week and I've also got the option to go on my cs38 at the beginning of September as my ambition is to become a climber, I would like some tips and advice from professionals on what's the best way to start out and the best route to go about becoming a tree surgeon, I'm based in Warwickshire ???

Established in 1987 Lowland Trees has built up a reputation as leading tree care specialists, operating across the Central Belt of Scotland. We are looking for an experienced groundsman who is keen to become or who is already on their way to becoming a climber. This would be on a sub contract basis 3 days a week to begin with (Wed, Thu & Fri). Wages will reflect training and experience and can be discussed in more detail over the phone. Climber and/ or groundsperson required for immediate start. We are looking for an enthusiastic groundsperson for our growing family run business. Whether you are new to the industry or a little more experience under your belt, a pro-active attitude is a must. You will be joining a hardworking and friendly team. The majority of our work is within or near to the Ashdown Forest - a stunning location to work in. We undertake domestic tree work and woodland management and there will be opportunities for the right candidate to develop their climbing skills if they wish. Salary is negotiable dependent on skills and experience and will be in the region of £20k - £25k. Full or part time applicants considered. 20 days paid holiday per year plus bank holidays. Hi Guys, Just joined the forum so not 100% on with how things work but guessing someone will be able to point me in the right direction. I have worked as a sub-contractor doing general land management (including some tree works / assisting) I set up on my own last year and concentrated on general maintenance (grass cutting etc) to get me started. I took my CS30 and have since been cutting fallen trees and assisting with grounds work with arborists when they have felled or pollarded trees for me as part of my contracts. I also sat my basic tree survey and inspection Lantra award this week as I would like to move into surveys and inspections. (I have assisted with 6 other surveys in the past. Any tips on how I can progress and find any work would be really appreciated as grounds tenders I have gone for have not come off and I need to get a focus on something. I really fancy getting into surveys but 1) I am 60 and 2) haven't got cash to invest in more training without having something tangible that will come from it. Hope that makes sense? I am based on the Leicestershire / Warwickshire border. Thanks chaps, any help or suggestions appreciated.

I'm keen to find work as a groundsman either one day a week or full time in the Telford/Shropshire/nearby area. Have CS30, CS31, CSCS, emergency first aid & forestry and tree ID course, plus soon to be doing CS38/CS39 in a few weeks followed by UA1 although looking primarily for ground based tree work. Hard working and levelheaded with 12 months' experience as a groundsman once a week in addition to full-time traffic management role (with multiple Lantra qualifications) and keen to apply myself to any opportunities.
