Hi folks, I’ve just added my private address as a tip site just south of Lincoln, half mile from new ring road on A15. It’s going towards our own domestic use for our family running two stoves one for hot water and heating. With prior notice I’ll more than happily take anything burnable above 3inch but cannot take brash or chippings. I can assist unloading. But the grass out side has plenty of room if i’m at work. I’ve got a large ifor trailer and means to cut and chop. Happy to pick up from your job site or yard if my shifts allow. Bit of a bizarre one. I’ve been burning some beech in my wood burning stove this week and it’s been fine, however I gave some to a friend for his open fire and it doesn’t burn well, it just smokes. There’s plenty of draw on the chimney (it’s recently had the a new, bigger cowl fitted giving it much more draw than it had), the wood is seasoned, he’s using plenty of kindling to get it going, but it just seems to start smoking once the kindling has burnt out. Anyone got any idea what could be causing this as I’m at a loss!

Hi, I have recently joined on a hunt for wood to burn at home. We don't have any heating in our house so rely on logs and kindling to keep us warm, and this is set to run out for this year very soon! Please can anyone let me know if they have (or know how to get hold of) any dry logs or kindling. We are based in Nutley, East Sussex. thanks in advance!

Hello As part of my industrial design course, I am currently looking into indoor air pollution. I understand that air quality is a concern for many of us, so I aim to generate a solution that helps to provide cleaner air for our home environments. A big part of designing new solutions is understanding the problem from the user perspective. Hence, it would be very helpful if you could answer a few questions about your experience with air quality at home. I look forward to gaining insight through your responses. Questions: Is indoor air quality something that you think about often, or that impacts you on your daily life (or that of your family members)? Do you take any measures to try to protect yourself or family members from poor indoor air quality at home ? Are you particularly concerned about any individual home pollutants? Who do you think should be responsible for improving the quality of the air in your home (if anyone)? Do you think more education about indoor air pollution is needed? Would you benefit from a service that highlights low polluting home products ? How would you use this information? Thank you, Aaron

Nearing decision time on a new splitter - which will be a tractor mounted vertical. It'll be used out in the forest and at home so PTO is an obvious necessity, however I'm just debating on whether it's worth also getting the electric motor option also. The thinking being quieter when at home, independent from any tractor breakdowns and also future proofed for if diesel use becomes an issue in future years. As the splitter is an expensive purchase and one to last a lifetime, the latter point is probably most important behind the thought but just wondering whether I'm over thinking/worrying about something that might not happen and whether it warrants the extra cost (approx 1k) of the elec option ?♂️. Thoughts welcome and also whether anyone has experience of tractor mounted PTO splitters with the elec option and how much they use it? From the data when in elec mode it's considerably slower than when run by the tractor!

Hi all, Does anybody know of someone that removes timber from site.I have a job coming up in Maidstone Kent and will have a large amount of timber that I would like removed, it would require a grabber and will be road access once I have moved it. 3 beech trees, roughly 50-60ft high, stems ranging from about 20-30 inches wide..... I've been cutting and splitting my own logs. I've been stacking them in my garage as I dont really have anywhere outdoors to keep them without them getting pinched. I've noticed that some are starting to get surface mold on them, what should I do? They're currently stacked 5 layers deep at the back of the garage

Does anyone know how dead wood compares to seasoned wood for energy output. We had some trees felled in May 2018 and most was logged and stacked under cover. I'm now clearing up the perimeters of the same field to re-instate the fence and want to know if I'm wasting my time in logging the timber that became hidden in undergrowth etc. Obviously now well seasoned but its lightness suggests it may have lost something through decay? Would I be better of moving it out of the way and letting nature have it back?

I have some cedar, cut into 30cms thick rounds directly after dropping the tree last August. I've split the rounds, stored some under cover but the main bulk is stacked outside. My question is, is it correct that after 9 months I believe that you can burn as firewood? The moisture meter is reading between 5% and 7%. This is from the outdoor pile. My colleague gave me the wood alongside a quantity of pine, which I have no intentions of using for at least three years. I've just thrown one piece onto a really hot fire of chestnut in my boiler, it seems to go ok. I'm running out of wood now, I've bough €2600 since January last year, hence the question of the cedar. Thanks chaps.

1. If you had the exact same size log and species e.g a beech log 10 inches by 4 inches but one kiln dried and one naturally air dried both at 20% moisture which would last longer? 2, if you had all hardwoods and Are dried to 20% which would last the longest?

Good morning guys, I've finally plucked up the courage to ask a question after many years of viewing the forum from afar. My stocks of dry firewood are running low and I have noticed that people are starting to import firewood from the baltics and Eastern Europe. I'm pretty green about this subject so I'd like some friendly advice on importing and suppliers which are legitimate. I looked on the Internet and it was pretty overwhelming the amount of suppliers looking for business. Many thanks in advance for your help Cheers ?
